What are your feelings on the MOG wearing a black dress?
Thank you ladies, FMIL was asking me what I thought and personally I think black evening gowns are so elegant. But since she seemed hesitant I thought I'd check with you ladies to see what you thought. Thank you for your help.

My mom and FMIL are both wearing black gowns...neither one looks like they are in mourning! Take a peek at the pics in my album. They are both incredibly elegant gowns. Our bms are in black and white too. I dont think is a mourning thing anymore. Plus we're picking everything up with bright flowers.
Oh wow, I just looked at your MOB and MOG dresses and they are beautiful. Thanks for sharing!!! I also like the FG, JBM and your BM dress, they are so pretty. They are going to look great together.

My mom is wearing a black dress. She wasn't looking for black, but the dress is gorgeous and looks great on her!

FH's mom is wearing Coco Brown. But I would not have cared if she wanted to wear black. The only reason I would suggest her not wearing it, is because she might blend in with the other guests but that's the only reason I could think of. I want my mom and FMIL to stand out. It's their day too!

i love black ithink its so simple and elegant and rich looking!!! i say go for it!
my mom is wearing balck and she too was hesitant to buy it but i just love her in black!! and it goes with the theme of pink and black!

I have mixed feelings on this...I like black dresses and almost always wear one to weddings..
But in my crazy italian family..it's a no-no to wear black to your son or daughters wedding unless you don't approve..
However, FMIL (who is actually FH's stepmom, his mom is deceased)..hadn't found a dress yet and this past weekend she found one she LOVED. It's black but apparently has a lot of silver beading. she called to ask if it was okay..I told her yes. Basically because I know they'll think I'm a bridezilla if I say no and because I'm worried she won't find a dress in time. Although, I remember telling her at the beginning of wedding planning that I didn't want them wearing black bc of the reason above...
Whatever, it's about me & FH- not her and her BLACK dress

I agree with alot of the girls on here who said black is elegant. I think if you are ok with it and she feels good in it then why not?? My Mom nor FMIL will wear black but that is b/c of their feelings about it..I don't mind at all. My aunt wore black to her son's wedding last year and she looked amazing!! She definitely loves her DIL and never in her mind would she consider it mourning. Her DIL didn't mind in the least...actually she told her to get it since she thought that dress looked the best on her.

I dont see anything wrong with black..if i was having a bridal party i would have chosen black...but i think its elegant.

Call me old fashion, but i think she shouldn't wear black. I personally feel that there are a lot of colors to choose from and picking black especially since you are either MOG or MOB, it should be a no-no. But that is just my opinion.

I'd prefer them not to wear black, but if that's what they really like and found a dress they love, I wouldn't say no.

my mom is wearing black to my wedding...i went with her to pick it out and she looked great in it and she is happy, so that is all i care about...i know she is not 'mourning' and i really dont care what anyone else thinks lol...she is also really dressing it up with rhinestone straps and rhinestones all over the top so it looks great

Personally I love black dresses but not for the MOG or the MOB. I feel that most guest come wearing black so they should have something that makes them stand out.

My mom is getting a pretty black dress and i love it. It doesn't bother me at all. I think that the only color that you should worry about is if she wanted to wear a white dress.

I would prefer if both my mom and his mom wore black. I don't know if I'd want to see them in bright green or red or something. Black is perfect and classic. For anyone.

My mom had this fixation with not wearing black. I didn't care. As long as I knew it wasn't some kind of 'this is being worn because i am unhappy' thing. Black is classic and elegant. I say go for it!
