What are your feelings on the MOG wearing a black dress?
Thank you ladies, FMIL was asking me what I thought and personally I think black evening gowns are so elegant. But since she seemed hesitant I thought I'd check with you ladies to see what you thought. Thank you for your help.

Re: MOG wearing a black dress???
FMIL wore a black dress for FBIL's wedding 2 years ago - The dress was beautiful but I think it is wrong to wear black as a parent. unless it is a black tie affair.

I specifically asked that the MOG or MOB didn't wear black, wihite or our wedding colors. I think they should be celebrating not in 'mourning'. JMHO.

i prefer her to, since i saw her other recycled from 25 years ago options she was thinking about, that when she showed me a black one I said thank g-d !
As long as it looks like an evening gown , its fine i think. most people don't wear evening gowns to funerals , so i don't think it is an issue

I think it is fine....I would like both my mom and his mom to be in either black, brown, dark purple, navy, or dark orange...really it is fine to wear black.

I wouldn't care - is it going to have beadwork or anything on it?

Re: MOG wearing a black dress???
DH's mom wore a black pant suit. It was very nice and elegant and she was very comfortable in it which was a plus.
I think so many people wear black to weddings these days that it's not such a big deal anymore.
I was worried b/c DH's family is Italian and I was told that it was a major insult if the MOG wore black but I knew that's not why she was wearing it, and that's all that mattered.

My mom and DH's mom wore gorgeous black gowns. Both my grandmas wore black too. Black is very elegant actually.

It wouldn't bother me at all. I kind of think if bridesmaids can wear black, why not the parents.

plus black tie does not mean that the women have to wear black, it means the men have to be in a tux .

Re: MOG wearing a black dress???
I can understand if it's a cultural thing, but if it's not........any mom wearing black does not mean they look they're in 'mourning'. My mom and DH's mom like I said both wore black gowns and trust me, they couldn't have been happier for the two of us, they just felt the same way that black is elegant and that is the look they were going for....plus, my BMs wore black dresses so everything in my wedding was well coordinated in black and ivory.

Re: MOG wearing a black dress???
My mom and FMIL are both wearing black gowns...neither one looks like they are in mourning! Take a peek at the pics in my album. They are both incredibly elegant gowns. Our bms are in black and white too. I dont think is a mourning thing anymore. Plus we're picking everything up with bright flowers.
