MOH is on major tight budget and tells me NOW!

Hi everyone... I was wondering if anyone had any thrifty but not so obviously thrifty ideas for organizing a wedding shower. My MOH agreed to the position in the BP, but didn't talk money until the shower discussion was brought up. My fiance and I are funding our own wedding so I can't even help out... unless we come up with some creative ideas there will be no shower.

Thanks in advance for any of your ideas or suggestions.

Have it in the home of someone who can cook!I know that my mom and sister are having it at my mom's since she loves to entertain. I'm sure they are renting some things and hiring a maid to help but it would be a lot cheaper than a catering hall.

By the way, Welcome to the boards!!!

just do it in someones house. Even if you order platters of food it shouldn't be that bad.

What about a potluck thing.. Everyone brings a dish with the recipie that they can put in a recipie book or box for you!

If you had an idea of what kind of budget she had that would help out a lot. First how many people? What town are you in? There are so many options. You could rent out a fire house, they always have party rooms. Or you could call a local restaurant and see how much they charge for a buffet style dinner. Or you can always have it at someones house and either cater in the food or have them cook.

One more question. Is it just the MOH paying for the party? For my bestfriends Bridal shower the whole bridal party chipped in and it only cost about $150 per girl for a buffet dinner.

Thanks for all your ideas... I really do appreciate them.

Of course any more are totally welcomed.

Jennifer in reply to your question, my MOH has mentioned the idea of asking the rest of the bridal party to help out.

I am in Queens so we have been checking around different places and asking around for prices. As far as having it in a house... I like the idea but I feel we would be kind of tight for space. Naturally, my invitation will be small to begin with because of the budget... but still I like all those silly bridal shower games and that requires space. Well right now I am keeping my options opened and willing to listen to any of your thoughts so that I can find something that can accomodate the budget.

not sure if you want to go this route but I know of a bride who had her shower at a starbucks in Manhattan. They have some room upstairs that was rented. I do not know this person well but my BM was at the party and was a BM in the wedding. I can get the details if you're interested.

From what I heard, it was nice and inexpensive to boot. They had it catered though - nobody cooked. I'm sure it would be cheaper to have someone cook though.

Hey, I am going right now to check out some places for my bridal shower. MY FMIL is paying for it, but she is doesn't walk well so I am going to pick a place and that's that.

I will give you a report when I come back. Maybe that will help.

Oh, And I am in Queens too.

Do like bagels, etc. in someone's house.. decorations are inexpensive and food for even 50 people could not be more than 150 bucks.

ETA-- it is all about the presentation of it. It can be done nicely- and I mean, who doesn't love bagels!! You can fruit salad, etc.

Definetly CubanBride, if you find any place that is recomendable and for a great deal please share the info.

Until then I have been pretty much finding places that tend to be approximately 30-39 dollars a head... plus gratuity.... and tax. Which of course doesn't include achoholic beverages. So when its all said and done they come out to like 40 and up per head.

Don't know if this is around your budget. If it is then you'll have no problem finding a nice place.

Again, if you do find a better deal than what I mentioned above... share the news!
