Ok so I know that early to be planning everything b ut people just dont understand that Long Island is full of brides who book everything early. My Maid of Honor just doesn't understand why I am booking everythign so early and every time she says she will come with me she bails. Like for my second dress she was suppsoed to come to the place and never showed up. She said she thought I was kidding. Why the hell would i tell you a time and place and be kidding? Like for the engagement party no one asked me if I needed help and she didn't and she showed up late because she got lost! Well if you would have een at my house for my makeup and hair trial and helped me bring allt he stuff to the eparty like an awesome MOH would then you wouldn't have gotten lost.
She is my first cousin and I love her but its so frustrating to do all of this stuff alone. I get really stressed sometimes and I know FH doesn't want to really have much to do with planning except for the damn video so he will just yes me to death! Sorry...had to vent!

Yea I have 2 and neither one is helpful. One hates that im getting married (she hates change) and the other is my sister and she is really young and doesnt understand what to do or how to go about doing things. OOO and the kicker is neither one of them like each other!!! I feel your pain!

Mine too! I was thinking to myself, does he even really want to get married?! But I guess I am not alone if yours is the same way.
As for my bridal party and MoH, they are all scattered throughout NY so I am happy with what they can do. I know that she is trying her best. She was able to come to my first dress experience but not the others. She's in the city and I'm deep in suffolk so right now it hasn't bothered me. Hoping I am remain this calm for the next year about everything!

I feel your pain! Maybe you should sit down and talk to her and explain you are stressed and see how she responds? This might help to have her see you would really like her help.

This!!! Some ladies have never been married/been part of a wedding and don't know that they should help. Let her know what you expect of her!

I wouldn't worry so much about planning ahead. You have lots of time to plan things. I am planning my wedding with less than 5 months and I have not had any trouble finding a reception hall or vendors to book. That being said, you need to remember that, while someone is your MOH, they aren't signing up to plan the wedding with you, they are supposed to be there to support you and bustle your dress the day of the wedding and make sure you have fun. (And if you're lucky enough to get a MOH who is willing to plan both your bachelorette party and your bridal shower, that is already a lot of work and money that they will be putting into it.)
Just try to be understanding, because of course you don't want to have your relationship with your cousin ruined over a wedding.

Actually alot of my vendors were taken for my date. It's the Sunday of Labor Day so thats why its so busy. Eunice and I share the same date on here...when I went to see Woodbury Country Club she had the downstairs booked already. Videographer Aj was already booked. 2 other brides have the same date and they booked some vendors I was hoping for so it really did have to be done pretty early if I wanted some great vendors that I had in mind. My limoc ompany even has their Rolls Royce booked for that day already! It's so crazy I know!!
My MOH is my sons godmother. She is like the sister I never had so its just a little rough that she hasnt been around. I see MOH's at bridal shows with the brides and at a lot of things that they do and I get a little sad. we are Portuguese too so in our culture usually the MOH does a lot with the bride. I wouldn't ruin my relationship with her but I'm not the quiet type either so I think I'll just have a nice chat with her and tell her how I feel...she was the only person late to our engagament party and by half hour and it was a sit down luncheon. Know what I mean? Just aggravating.

Same story here! One of my bridesmaids (the only one that lives on long island) says she wants to help but is NEVER available to help with anything. It gets really annoying and I definitely have to plan far in advance. Sometimes I feel like she would rather spend time with her boyfriend than do anything with me that has to do with this wedding And then one of my maids of honor hasn't even bothered to call me, text me, or anything since I last saw her in early February!
Lili, you are not alone as you can tell by all of the posts in this thread

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time with it :/ I didn't mean to sound judgmental, I just wanted to make sure you weren't losing sight of what's important! Of course I also hope that, especially when the date gets closer and all of the tasks are more imminent, that your girls will stick by you! I understand feeling sad and wishing she'd be more supportive, especially when she's already so close to you.

Oh no worries..you didnt sound judgmental. Its just weird how people are always busy during the wedding stuff when it was so different before it all. LOL I just shake my head and try to move past it.

oK LADIES, Some people look at me as if Im a Biotch for making responsibility cards for my BM's and MOH's....I disagree!....some people have never taken part in a wedding before, and they do not know exactly what their job entails.....And thats where the responsibility cards come in. They help to describe the BM & MOH roles. you should tell her how you feel, and exactlly what you want from her. And f the job is too much, then maybe she needs to rethink the position. ....No i am not a bridzilla I am just a woman that knows what I want!!!!

One thing I learned is that everyone is busy with their own life and for them your wedding seems so far away. They won't really start caring until your about 3 months away. So just be prepared for alot of frustrations, but that is what LIW is for to talk wedding 24/7.

Re: MOH issue?
My MOH has 3 boys ages 7 & under and is pregnant due in May. So I don't expect too much from her because she has a ton on her plate already. But for her to 'think your joking' or to not offer to help with your Eparty? That's messed up!

I understand u ..its hard when people just dont understand how the whole wedding thing works ..what i would do is sit down and talk to her and tell her what is going on and that u r really upset and tell her to stop questioning you and just do things without a question....she needs to understand that a wedding is not a piece of cake ...it takes a lot of time and it sounds like she does not care really..good luck and i hope things work out for u
