MOH responsibilities? Help for my little sister

My little sister is my MOH but I have never been in a bridal party and neither has she (she is only 22). What is a MOH supposed to do? She lives far away so she can't really plan a whole lot, plus she is young and still in school so she doesn't have lots of time or money. One of my friends in NYC offered to help her plan a bachelorette party which was really nice, because my sister doesn't know the restaurants and clubs up here.

I don't want to overwhelm my sister, so maybe if you could tell me what you consider the top 3 or 5 responsibilities of the MOH, so I can help her out a bit in figuring out what to do?

Thanks!

I think the MOH's main responsibilities are to coordinate with the rest of the bridal party to plan certain events, such as the bachelorette party and shower. Even if she can't plan it all, she should be the main contact about the events and delegate responsibilities to the other girls.

Another main responsibility will be to be there for you on your actual day. She should be there to help with you with anything you need, if its with your dress or if you need something. I know there will be a bridal attendant there, but I think its nice to know your MOH is there by your side too. If someone in your family, like your crazy uncle, starts getting out of control, or you don't like something, your MOH can be the one to fix it.

I am in the same situation as you are...my MOH is 16 (will be 17 by the time my wedding comes around), and she lives in Florida. She is my cousin, but more like a sister to me, because I helped raise her.

I already explained all this to my BP, and they are very willing to pitch in and take over things that she cannot prior to the wedding, like my bridal shower & bachelorette. Her duties will be mainly on the day of, to help me get dressed, fix my bustle/train, coordinate any last minute details, etc.

I am not sure what is the right or wrong thing to do in this situation, but this is how I am handling it, and luckily, my BP is very understanding.

i agree with the organizing the shower and bach party and just keeping things in order with the bridal party...and just being there for you the day of helping get dressed and making sure you're not forgetting anything

I was a MOH for my Sister when I was almost 21. I was pretty much in charge of communicating with all the bridesmaids for the shower and bachlorette party.

This is a helpful post! My MOH has only been in one wedding (with me) as a BM, shes 26 and has not done anything to help me!! I have to like print her out a list of 'MOH duties'.

shower and bach party, right-hand woman on wedding day, help w/ favors, dress shopping--that's about the size of it with us, and my mom (& prob FMIL) are doing most of the shower stuff.
