So, I am the MOH this weekend at my best friend's wedding in Laguna Beach. I am terrified. I am very good at speaking one on one but in front of a group of people, I get tongue tied and stressed out. Last time I was MOH for my cousin's wedding I ended up getting very teary eyed (too much champagne and PMS'ing) and I was totally embarassed to show that much emotion in front of hundreds of people!
Please tell me that I'm going to be ok. I keep saying the speech over and over in my head....

It's perfectly normal to feel that way. Just remember that no one knows what you have planned to say so if you forgot something or you think you messed up, no one else knows! I always have a hard time preparing a speech for a couple and just wing it. You can always just jot down on a napkin a few things to help you out.

I feel your pain! My sister is not even engaged yet and I'm already dreading my MOH speech! You will be fine though.. just have a drink or two beforehand to loosen yourself up... that usually works for me.

I'm going to do a little 'liquid courage' aka a cocktail but not too much. Last time I did that I ended up crying during the speech...
But I'm glad someone else feels my 'pain!!'

you will do fine, dont worry. Just go up there be yourself and speak from the heart. If you get emotional then that is fine, its moments like that which make a wedding special

my two MOHs were really nervous, they both wrote out their speeches and read from the paper. the first one to give her speech was so nervous, her hand was shaking, but only me and DH noticed it. my 2nd my MOH was more in control, but her speech was so heartfelt, she had tears, and so did everyone else. don't worry about it, it'll be fine, dont' worry about anyone else and just focus on the bride and groom, they will love it!

Being sappy is a part of the MOH speach in my eyes! I have never seen a wedding where the MOH didnt get that way, it is FINE!

I was the MOH for my sister's wedding and I had printed out a nice speech that I made for them and when we got to the hall I realized I forgot the paper at home! Sooo, I just improvized and tried to make it short and sweet and after it was over everyone kept coming up to me saying how it brought tears to their eyes! Just speak from the heart and look at the bride and groom! You'll do great!

Thanks girls. I just get so embarassed because I'm such a sap.... I cry over everything and my best friend is the 'antibride' and totally unemotional. LOL She's already making fun of me if I cry!

You will be fine!!! Just jot down some specific things you want to say, this may help u not get tounge tied. Also, its ok to cry.... she is ur best friend and obviously they are tears of joy.... dont let that stop you or embarass you.
You will be perfect even if you cry uncontrollably and mess up the whole speech b/c u did it from ur heart....

Aww, thanks! I'll definitely let you all know how it goes..... I've been 'training' myself not to get over sappy about stuff (my wedding included! )

I just did my MOH speech two weeks ago.. Just a good thing to remember.. Look at the bride and groom when you speak and definetly write your speech out word for word on a card. I used my card to keep my mind on track so that I didnt stumble over words, but also added in my own touch and infelction while reading! Hope that helps you!
