Mom needs help with Bridal Shower

I was hanging out with my mom on the beach today, it was her 64th b-day , and we started taling about my bridal shower. Well, not really about it. She mentioned that being that I am her only child, she has never thrown one and doesn't know what to do. She was so cute! I want to tell one of my B-maids to call her because she has just thrown two showers herself, but Iam concerned that my mom won't be able to express herself clearly and will get embarassed. (We're Greek-which is her first language) What advice do you ladies have for me? What can I tell her to make it easier for her to plan, etc. Thanks for any advice!

Start with a town-- where do you want the shower to be? The girls on here can give you great suggestions of places if you give us a town or area!

I live in Bay Shore, but we're originally from Syosset. Anything from there to Patchogue would work!

Mama Lenora's is awesome. People are having their RD their. You have to figure out how many people next! That will give you a better list!

Venezia is Smithtown is AMAZING! I had my shower there. The food was incredible. Serving were HUGE!! Service was outstanding and not too expensive

Re: Mom needs help with Bridal Shower

I personally helped my mother with almost everything step of the shower. I chose to for the same reasons as you. And even thought she wanted it to be a surprise, I felt it was more important to be involved and help my mom, and helping take the stess off her. I have no regrets, because it turned out great. This is what I did;

1) Made two separate lists (his family & my family) with the names and addresses of the ladies, I wanted invited to the shower. I wrote them out excactly the way she should address the envelopes.
This made my mom's life much easier and organized. If someone left a message and she didn't understand the name, she would play it for me to understand it.

2) Once you have both list completed, you will know how many people are being invited (including you and wedding party) and now you can look at restaurants and know the size of room you will need to accomodate your guest.
And discuss what your budget is per person, so when you call resaturants, you don't waste time going to places you may not need to.

3) I also did two separate spread sheets with the ladies names and colums that read:
Name - Yes - No - Did not respond
This way as people call to respond, she just has to check off the box.
Also, you might want to give your mother-in-law a list of her family in case you want people to respond to her instead

I hope this is helpful to you.

I think getting your BMs involved is a great idea.

Pick your BM that you think is the most patient and a good listener - explain to her the situation with your mom, and ask her to give your mom a call. I bet she will be more than happy to help out, and won't make your mom feel uncomfortable.

I'm also Greek (1/2 Greek anyway). I'm wondering if there is a nice Greek restaurant in your area that she could host your shower in. That way she can communicate with them in her own language and feel comfortable. Chances are, they will also have a relationship with a favor shop that also speaks Greek.

My cousin had her's at Mythos in Flushing last month and it was great. The had a separate room for catering that was very nice.

For RSVPs, she could spend a little more on the invites and add in response cards...just to make it easier on her.

Edited to say: The food was not ethnic. I had a nice grilled chicken entree and the other option was salmon. There were some greek desserts in addition to a sheet cake but that was all.
