I just started a blanket recently. it takes a long time though. I really should've done a scarf. my attention span is nil.

I'm doing a throw blanket. It takes a while but I already love it! Next up a capelet, then a blanket for a friend's baby!

how did you all learn in 1 day? I am tryign to teach myself. I tries last year, but couldn't really get it & putting it aside during the wedding planning.

I picked it up again last night & made a wad of yarn. It is beige. And very abstract.

Re: Mom taught me to crochet today!

Guidance from my mother was essential. I tore apart my blanket 3 times before I actually got it right! I kept making the loops in the stitches way too small! Of course, I picked homespun yarn to start with (and that is not the easiest to learn on, IMO). Any way we can guide you? Can you upload picks of what you have done so far?

My biggest problem is finding the end to pull from inside the skein! UGH! So many times now I have just unraveled it from the outside!!! That's my next lesson from Mom!

if i can't find the middle string, I just reach in and pull a chunk of the middle out, then you can usually find it that way.

I'm crocheting an afghan now, but I also get bored easily, so I'm usually working on at least two things at a time. I had started the blanket months ago, then I started and finished knitting a sweater, now I'm back to the blanket.

I undid the abstract wad-- I had more luck yesterday, but I keep doing a little & undoing it. There first few stiches asre clumpy, and then it looks like the picture.

I think I am having hook size/ yarn thickness isssues. DH bought me 2 kits--a kintting one with Thick & Quick yarn & a crocheting one with Chunky yarn. The crochet hook seems to work better with the yarn that came with the knitting kit though. The crochet hook doesn't have a size anywhere though.

Also, my hook is plastic & slides around a lot. is there a different kind I should be using?

I think my other issue is being a lefty, following righty instructions.

Some books have lefty instructions in them. I'm a righty so I don't know how good they are, but you might want to check out the 'I taught myself to crochet' set. When I started I had real issues with the size of the yarn too, and a friend suggested using medium worsted weight yarn and a k hook when you are first learning.
