Moms - Am I Crazy???

my goddaughter was 3 months old yesterday (born 12/10). my cousin just found out she is pregnant again (yes - you are super-fertile right after giving birth). anyway, she is due 11/8.

her family was planning a trip to Disneyland for this Christmas. okay - i don't really see the point in taking a 1 yr old, but whatever. however, baby #2 will only be 2 months old by Christmas time. my cousin sees no reason why the trip can't proceed as planned. WHAT??? taking a 2 month old to Disneyland???? that can't be safe????

she asked me last night if i knew the weight restrictions for bringing infants on board a plane.

what do you guys think about that? obviously, i am not a mother.

thanks!!

P.S. i know how much you guys hate unsolicited advice from other people in how to raise your children, so i haven't told her my thoughts.

Karen- I just Fmd you (about teaching)

Well my take on this is, I think 1yr old (your Goddaughters age by Xmas) might even be a little young to appreciate Disney, even though I plan to take JA to Sesame Place and other parks this summer.

I think taking a 1yr old AND a 2m old will just be 'a different style' of visiting Disney. I wouldnt say its not safe, but I would say that the parents wouldnt enjoy it as much. Those ages are SO tough, because they will both need SO MUCH attention. The baby with feedings, diaper changes, etc. and your Goddaughter will want to run around and see and explore everything around her. SO each parent will have to watch one child, and each child will be so different (one stays put, the other doesnt, LOL)

If others are going, and they will have breaks in between, thats different. Yes their 1yr old will LOVE looking at all the gorgeous colorful things at Disney, but she may be too small to enjoy alot of the rides... (and then again, one PRO is that they wont pay for either child).

If I were in FL with 2 kids those ages, I MIGHT stop by a park for a day. But I highly doubt that Id make a special family vacation planned at those ages...

Im counting the days to plan a Disney cruise and I still think JA is too young. At least 2 1/2 - 3 in my opinion...

Re: Moms - Am I Crazy???

hey anna - FM'd you back

there will be a bunch of 'older' relatives - her parents, her aunt and uncle. is it safe to have a 2 month old around all those strange people? they can't have great immune systems yet???

2 months, is definately NOT a good age to have around all those people. Thats actually JUST the age that Drs say you can START taking the baby out to stores, etc.

I would DEFINATELY not take the itsy bitsy one. and even the 1yr old I would be on the fence about. Maybe they'll decide to leave the baby at the hotel with a relative, hopefully.

seems a lot to juggle- especially the plane ride. Guess they will se what it is all about when they actually have to do it... TWO CAR SEATS on the plane????? I cant imagine even walking thru the airport with all the stuff they will need ...but I am also sure plenty of people have done it

They say that infants have the mother's immunity for awhile after birth, but I'm not sure how long that lasts.

Personally, I would have some concerns about taking such a small baby to a place like Disney....but, I am neurotic about germs, etc.
The Mom should carry a TON of antibacterial hand wipes with her and ask ANYONE that wants to touch/hold the baby to wash their hands first!

If the baby comes early, the doctor is likely to advice the Mom NOT to take the baby on a trip like that b/c it is a greater risk for preemie.
