Moms, can you help?

Moms, can you help?

This may seem like a dumb question to some but Id appreciate any suggestions!

My co-workers wife is pregnant and their (co-ed) shower is Saturday. I was invited but I cant make it. I wanted to spend like $50-60 though and send the gift with someone else. Problem is, their registry is sparse. They either have a $700 crib on there or a bunch of little things like onesies and bottles that are obviously cheaper.

I want to get them something special - I am pretty close with the husband since I sit next to them. I was thinking of getting a basket and filling it with a bunch of bottles and little things and including a set of books (I know they are big readers).

I was also thinking of a pre-natal massage for the wife but I dont think I can afford that with my wedding coming so soon.

Any ideas or suggestions??? I am not sure about straying off the registry or not.

Thank you!!!!!

I like your idea, especially since the first month you need small stuff like that.
Don't worry about straying of the registry, I know a lot of people did that for my first baby shower, what can you do.

I think making a gift basket is a wonderful idea. Fill it with alot of the little things off the registry and some other books. Some of the staples for books are Goodnight Moon, The Giving Tree, and if they are having a boy then Love you Forever is beautiful (it will make you cry) Also they may think it weird at first but pack the basket with Batteries!!! All sizes go to like Price Club and buy the big packsof Cs Ds AAAs AA I'm telling you that will be needed. Every baby toy from the swing to the crib toys use like four batteries and they all use different ones. TRUST ME....put them in. Your friend may not understand at first but after the baby is born they will be a lifesaver!!!!

Well, I'm a Mommy to be and I can tell you that I would appreciate ANYTHING for baby, registry or not. I think your basket idea is great. Somethings I would put in there along with bottles are: diapers, baby wipes, baby bath stuff, powder, & bibs. Things you can never have too much of. I know my cousin got almost a year's supply of stuff like this at her shower and believe me, she is NOT complaining!

When my son was born, I got a huge basket filled with baby shampoo, baby bath, baby lotion, baby powder, a grooming kit (brush, comb, baby nail clippers...), some baby washcloths - I didn't have to buy ANY of that stuff until my daughter was born a couple of years later! It was so awesome!!

I got so many baskets all different themes and I loved them all. Dmangel (Donna) made me up one of all these different unique things I had never seen before. Ambersmom (Sharon) made me up one that was all bath related and it had so much stuff in it that I never would have thought to register for or buy. I love basket ideas.
