Okay I'm a bit conflicted on how to feel right now. Part of me is p'ed off and another part of me feels bad. My mom is having a custom dress made, and the designer's website finally put it up on the site so I was able to see the full dress... and it's gorgeous. (she only showed me the top of it in a magazine before) However it's also abit reminiscent of a bridal gown (just in light blue) and my FH is red with anger because he's saying that it looks like she's trying to show me up at my own wedding. She paid a nice amount of money for it so I'm hesitant to tell her to change it, especially with the wedding less than a month away. I do know that people will feel like she's overdressed, even for the occasion, and start talking (I absolutely hate that!). So I need some advice!! Should I tell her it's too much or just forget it and focus on everything else that STILL needs to be done. Thankssss!!!! Her dress: My dress:

Re: Mom's dress
wow.... her dress looks bigger/fancier than yours. not cool!!
I'd definitely ask her to change it, at least the skirt!! and people will DEFINITELY be talking (negatively).

Re: Mom's dress
yea, I think if they take out the big poof that it will be fine but, right now it looks like a wedding gown in blue

OMG your dress is amazing but your mom.....oy! Its bigger and poofier than yours. Just sit her down and explain to her that you dont feel comfortable with her dress. lol I went with my mother because she has a tendency of buying dresses that looks that it was made in the 80's .

Agreed! I would not be happy. My mom had wanted a mermaid dress, which was gorgeous, but not what I felt was right. I told her and she went with something different. Good luck!

Re: Mom's dress
i almost fell over in my chair reading your post. wowwww. i'm almost speechless (which is a rare occasion). The dress is definitely over the top, to say the least. Ultimately the decision is yours but I suggest talking to you mom about it.

I can't believe she would even consider wearing a dress like that, it is a wedding dress in blue! Tell her she cannot wear it!! xx

Re: Mom's dress
I think you should tell your mom the way you feel. I wouldnt my mom wearing a dress thats wedding dress to my wedding. Your the bride and you should be the only one that looks like one! As her if she can make it less poofy or something to dress it down alittle

Re: Mom's dress
omg, her dress is way too over the top!!! if they took out the poof and made it an A-line bottom (or even a simpler straight bottom) it would be better
my mom has a spectacular gorgeous one-of-a-kind dress, and my dress is on the simpler side. however, my mom's dress isn't poofy at all, and just happens to have really awesome embellishment. even if it does have more 'sparkle' than mine, they dont compete with eachother and it doesnt look 'bridal' at all
your mom really should change her dress and you are not overreacting at all

Re: Mom's dress
The dress is extravagant, but with a month to go, I am sure there is not much that can be done. You will be the bride, no one can upstage you. I don't think its worth stressing over or causing issues between you and your mom so close to the wedding.

Re: Mom's dress
Yeah, I hate to say it, but that's unreal. It's gorgeous, but it's a bridal gown. The top is wonderful, but that skirt has got to be toned town so she looks her part, MOB! Wowza! I hope you two can deal with this!
You will look amazing, and she won't show you up, but people will be talking if she comes down the aisle in that . . . . she comes down before you, or even with you, so that will not look right.
so...what goes on with mom...kind of curious to know if you spoke to her about the dress? is all ok?

Re: Mom's dress
JMO I would tell her to change it. It is a bit much and looks alot like a wedding gown. She is going to take all the attention away from you at the wedding. Both are gorgeous dresses but maybe she can ask to change it up a bit.

Re: Mom's dress
I know she's your mom and all but you HAVE to say something about this. She CANNOT wear that. Im sorry if this sounds rude but its not even pretty. She will definitely be the talk of your wedding and thats not how it should be. You have to say something now girl.

I think her dress is totally inappropriate for your wedding. I would be totally pisssed off. It's not her wedding. I would definitely say something to her.

Re: Mom's dress
Okaaayy! Sorry for the late reply but we had some major meetings this weekend so I had no time for anything else. I have spoken to her, and good thing I did! Turns out she only saw the dress on a sitting mannequin, and had no idea of how poofy it was. As soon as my dad showed her the email with the picture, she had him print it out and ran to the salon with it lol So YAY =) She's completely redoing the skirt. It's going to be sort of A-line and pleated, I think she said it'll have some fullness but nowhere near what that picture shows. SO THANK YOU!!!! I'm glad I listened to you guys!!!
