Mom's, I need you!!!! RE: MOB dress?- UPDATED with PICS!

Wedding is 3/20/09.

I took my mother, MOH and BM to David's Bridal in Westbury today for dresses. Got a dress for the MOH and BM, but have a problem with my mother.

She's going to be about a size 18. She doesn't want something that will make her look too old (she's in her 50s) and she needs something that will cover her up because she's embarrassed about her weight. She only tried on two or three dresses and gave up because they were bringing her hideous ones. Unfortunatly I couldn't focus on her because I was trying to help the MOH and BM.

I promised my mother that just her and I will go out this week. Where should we go???? Need something not too expensive and will cover her up without making her look old.

We live in Queens but will be willing to go to Brooklyn or Nassau.

Kelly, I felt the same way. I got Ursula of Switzerland, in a 18. This one, only in aqua!!

They also have other styles that flatter. Since I'm not from NY, I can't tell you where to get my style, but I can tell you there were little alterations, and I bought it off the rack, in Lancaster Co.

PS Our Daughter, Debi got married in 08, and now Donna is marrying in 09.

I would suggest cutting the hanger ribbon off, so it doesn't show in the photos!!!

Hi there, I live in Brooklyn and my son and DIL got married in 2007. Her mom, sister, my SIL and I got our gowns at Doris Fashions on 18th Avenue and 68th Street in Brooklyn. Nina's mom and sister live out of state and when their dresses came in they were called and the dress was shipped to each of them with plenty of time for alterations. The store also has bridal gowns and bridesmaids, flower girl dresses, etc.
They are very reasonable and efficient. It is also a small neighborhood store but you can't believe how many styles they have inside. If you go be sure to ask for Maria to be your salesgirl and Josephine to do the alterations.

There is also Valentina Bridals on New Utrecht Avenue and 76th Street which is another great store with everything you would need for every member of your bridal party.

I went to Totally You on Merrick Road in Bellmore in Nassau County. They had a wonderful selection of dresses there and were so helpful. Also their alteration prices are so reasonable!

Just an update. my mother got her dress today! From Totally You in Bellmore. They are SO nice in there!!! Andrea helped us and my mother loved her. Let's see if I can get this dress posted right. It's Karen Miller Style #96540 in Sage.

So pretty. The color is really nice and the style seems like it would be very flattering. I am so happy for you and mom. Now....if only I would go looking for a dress for myself for my son's wedding!!!!! I like Totally You also. They have alot of choices. I bet you and mom are so relieved now!
