Mom's issue with BP

Original post by ASemderWedding

So I have pretty big (but awesome) bridal party of 2 MOH and 8 BM. Part of the reason for the size is because I have 4 sisters and 1 FSIL, so that right there is half! Personally I am more than okay with the girls that I've asked. My mom on the other hand is not. She thinks I'm nuts to have that many and that I should ask people to back out. I tried to explain that I didn't (nor could I choose between my family and my close friends) really have a choice. Well she told me last night that she wants me to pull all of my sisters, and that they would understand. I was dumbfounded! I honestly can't picture my day without my sisters or my friends. I told her my party is final and she'll have to deal with it. Am I being too harsh?

Not sure if this is relevant but my FH and I are paying for the wedding ourselves, so I'm very adamant about making decisions for us instead of for other people.

Thank you all so much ladies!! I told my mom last night that my bridal party was decision and that the current number was final. I'm just glad that I'm not the one over reacting in the situation!

I'm actually surprised that your mom would tell you to cut your SISTERS first OVER your friends!

I gotta hand it to you.. 10 girls is a lot but I'm freaking about about having 5 (I originally wanted 3) but ITS YOUR WEDDING!!!

I also don't think it will look like a circus. Haven't you seen those episodes of Four Weddings where they have like... 20 on EACH SIDE!!!! THAT is like a circus!!! lol

I love my mom, but she can be bizarre at times! As much as it is an obligation to have all 4 of my sisters three, I also couldn't imagine the day of without them. I really think she just doesn't get it. Oh we'll I guess!

Your mom has no say! Especially since she isn't paying for it. Tell her that your decision is final and stay strong about it

Ashley, I went through the EXACT same thing with my mom. She kept calling it a 'zoo'. It would really piss me off when she would use those words but I kept my mouth shut. It took her a while but now she is okay with it. She decided that she is going to 'choose her fights'. There are some things that I KNOW she isn't happy with (party bus instead of limo, size of the wedding party, uplighting) but she expressed her opinion and realized that the decision isn't changing. I think your mom will come around. I think our Mommys just struggle a little when their little girls are getting married because they are completely letting go of their original role and moving into an entirely new role. Everything will work out

Michele that's actually comforting to hear, since I know how your mom feels about Vinny and you getting married. So maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel for me hahaha!

Its your wedding and your money, do what makes you happy.
Just be realistic with yourself and your bridal party of what you expect from them. A lot of brides on here later regret having a large bridal party stating many of thw women dont want to help.

I honestly think this is my mom's concern with the bridal party among a few other things. I have 2 younger sisters that will be in school or not living in NY. I told my mom that I explained to both of the them that they can be involved as much as they want to be. I have group of 3 ladies (1 MOH and 2 BMs) that I will be relaying on to help me through the wedding.
