Emmas cousin is 8 months old and eats cheese doodles like they are going out of style. too much fat for my liking.
I give her the Trader Joes doodles but they still have too much fat.

I was just thinking about this because my son starts kindergarten tomorrow and they say to bring in a 'healthy' snack.
Do you think granola bars and Fig Newtons are healthy??

The kindergarten teacher has to step in here...
Granola bars are 'healthy', but not the Oreo ones, Kudos, or anything that involves candy.
Fig Newtons are on the 'questionable' list, but I think we can let them slide.
Here are some of the suggestions I give...
Cheese and crackers fruit (NOT fruit snacks or fruit roll ups!) peanut butter and crackers veggie sticks and dip mini bagels yogurt Jello popcorn (I suggest air popped, but that doesn't always go over so well! ) Rice or popcorn cakes granola bars pretzels dry cereal (Kix, Cheerios, corn flakes... )
This last snack was WILDLY popular with my kids last year, although it seems like an odd snack for 5 year olds (well, to me anyway! ) The kids were bringing tortillas spread with cream cheese and mild salsa, then rolled up and cut into bite sized rolls. It was the 'cool' snack to have and trade LOL.

Stacy, you can buy lunch box sized cool packs that will keep yougurt from spoiling. I wish they had things like that when *I* was a kid!
And yes, I think Cheese Nips are fine. A good rule of thumb is anything that's not greasy (chips) or sugary is perfect.

Cheese Nips aren't as greasy as chips, and 5 year olds can be PICKY, so we choose our battles wisely! At least the word 'cheese' is in the name!
And I have to admit... the name 'bald' pretzels gave me a giggle too... it's such a funny visual!

I'm in Port Jeff Station, so the Comsewogue district.
I have to say, there were (what I thought to be) some strange supplies on the list that I got...
Antibacterial soap (I figured the school had soap...?) dry erase markers and a dry erase eraser tissues
