moms/moms to be...another working question...advice maybe?

OK...so I am not looking to TTC until next summer...but being that I am out of work and Sept is closing in (after that my odds of getting a job in a school are slim)...so DH and I were talking about what I should do...

I have 15 credits towards a second masters, but since I will switch schools I will still probably need to take 36 credits...I could do this in a year...but then I would have to look for a job the same time that I was PG...(or soon-to-be)

I am trying to plan the birth for the summer...but that would mean that I wouldn't even have worked for a year...and then take a little maternity...and I'm not sure if I would feel compelled to go back to work after the summer...

so then if I take time off...I lose my experience?

ugh I don't really know what I am asking for...maybe what are your plans with being a mom and working...and then going back to work....

Erica, are you saying you could go back to school now since you are out of work? What does the second masters allow for career-wise that is different from now? Is it that you are looking to start in a new field?

Tough question ... and I can totally relate. If I remember correctly, I think you said you were getting your degree to become a librarian.

I'm not going to TTC for about 2-3 years ... but I'm thinking about continuing school after I graduate in May for a counseling degree (which I know you have). By the time I get out and start work, I want to start 'trying'. So, I'm just as confused as you. But I look at it this way ... I'm getting a degree in a field that I want to work in. The degree will be helpful in my current career too, so in case I change my mind about working in Education ... my degree won't go to a waste. And if we do get pregnant ... I could always take additional courses until I'm ready to jump in the market.

So ... more than likely ... I will just go for it ... for all the reasons I listed above.

Good Luck to you ... it is such a major decision. For us, I needed to justify the expense, since my degree won't come cheap. But as Anna would say ... follow your heart!

I agree with Cira (and Anna) ~ follow your heart!

(As long as you're not committing financial suicide, that is! )

There's no such thing as the 'right' thing. There is only 'what's best for me and my family'.

Erica here are my thoughts. You can plan and plan when you hope to TTC but there is no magic potion that will allow you to choice which month is 'happens' so IMO you should go to school now and finish up.You can probably even look for a part-time job at a local library while going to school now to help with money. Then look for a job, then TTC. Now many states have laws the do not require employers to grant maternity leave over the 6 weeks to employees who have worked less than 12 months at their current company. That might also be something you need to consider.
Going to school, working and having a young infant will be very, very hard IMO. When you are working full-time and the baby is in daycare you are not going to want to leave him/her 2 or 3 nights per week to attend classes, plus all the studying/homework/papers etc... And if I am not mistaken you don't have much family out in CA so you will not have someone to help you as much- other than Jon who is also going to be working full-time.
But in the end, only you can decide what is best for your family.

michele...those are my concerns...

my MIL said that she would come and live with us...I know that it would be hard to go back to work...but I haven't made a decision on that...but if I don't go back...I lose all my experience...

but you are right...there are no guarentees...I guess I will go through with the plans that we are not TTC anytime soon...

the good thing is that CA state schools are cheap!!
