so since FH and myself has been living together for the past 2+ years my mother has been harassing me to put
Monetary Gifts ONLYYYYY on our invites, not 'monetary gifts preferred' but monetary gifts ONLY - she said we have enough pots and pans - she is being highly annoying And I don't like this idea what do you ladies think?
I don't want to I think its rude
Are any of you doing this

Re: Monetary Gifts?
Honestly, it's rude to do that on either the shower invite or the actual wedding invite. Most guests give money at a wedding nowadays anyway so I wouldn't be too worried that you will be receiving gifts you don't need.

Re: Monetary Gifts?
We had this problem also. We have been living together for years and have everything we need but its so not proper to put that on the invite. What we did is register at BBB because they give you the money back if you return an item off of your registry. I have heard latley that some BBB locations have been giving people issues with returning the money but I just called the location in westbury and they said they still do it..
Someone will always bring an actual gift even if you say you want money so i figured i would register instead of getting a toaster or something ugly and cant return it because i dont know where they bought it

I think that if you don't register anywhere, most people will have no other choice but to give you money :)

Re: Monetary Gifts?
don't put that on your invite
people will always refer to your invitation as the invitation that said. . .'blah blah blah'
You don't want that to be the thing that your guests remember about your wedding

Re: Monetary Gifts?
sorry-i'm in the SAME boat as you-but you're really not supposed to even mention gifts on an invite; let alone write that you ONLY want monetary gifts. All the articles i've read say; have someone (mom; sister; bridesmaids) spread the word that you'd prefer $$$. Maybe only register for a few things for those guests that like to buy place settings; toasters etc. (you might get that expensive blender you always wanted).
I just plan on having a really small registry; so that they get the point; that i'd prefer the cash! Oh also-register somewhere that gives you cash back...this way you can return and get the money or register at a place you'll continue to shop at so the store credit you get won't be a waste.

Re: Monetary Gifts?
I think that people hardly EVER walk into weddings with gifts these days...thats what the bridal shower is for.
In the past 3 years I have been to like, 6 weddings. And I can honestly say that I have NOT ONCE seen a person walk in with a gift. No gift tables, just a card box.
And either way...I agree with you...its not a good idea to put it on the invite...

Re: Monetary Gifts?
you def shouldn't write that on your wedding invites (shower invites is ok since technically your mom / BMs are hosting that, and not you).
if you want wedding cash gifts, have your friends and family spread the word verbally

so true. unless you are getting married outside of NYC, then i would not worry about this. are you having a bridal shower? if not, then do not register and people will get the point. or you can register for a honeymoon so people can just giv eyou money towards that. putting 'monetary gifts only/preferred' on an invitation is beyond tacky, its ridiculous and just not done.

Re: Monetary Gifts?
just don't do a registry....and definitely DON'T put that on your invite. you don't invite people to your wedding for their gifts - you invite them to share your day.

Re: Monetary Gifts?
i agree with all the girls! don't put that on it - you'll most likely get $ anyways as most of your gifts unless you have OOS who have no idea that it's typical to give $ in NY
