My FH and I thought about gifts for our wedding and we realize we dont need anything for our home , bc we already have what we need. It would be a waste to get duplicates and end up getting store credit. I know some people give envelopes with money at the reception, but others mail the gifts to your home prior to the wedding.
Do you think its the poorest to ask for monetary gifts on the invitation?
If so, What wording is a good way to ask for monetary gifts in a wedding invitations?
Let me know your thoughts good or bad.......Thanks!

Re: Monetary Gifts? - Invitation
Sorry, but it would be in poor taste to make any mention of gifts on your invitation.

Re: Monetary Gifts? - Invitation
I think it's a little rude. We don't need anything either but we made the best of it by registering with BBB who has a cash return policy so whatever we get that we don't want we can return for cash.

I wouldn't mention it on the invitation. Like the previous poster said...most people give money anyway.

Re: Monetary Gifts? - Invitation
Do people even give gifts at weddings anymore (here on LI and in the North East anyways)? I'd say 99% of people give money as the gift so whats to worry about? Unless you're talking about the shower. And in that case, if you don't want gifts for a shower, then register for your honeymoon!

Re: Monetary Gifts? - Invitation
I think mentioning gifts with the invite is a little presumptuous and may come off as tacky. JMO
But I know I NEVER give an actual gift at a wedding, its not the NY thing to do. Most people know you give a card w/ $$$$$. Don't stress.

Yes, I think it is rude and looks very greedy if you ask for monetary gifts on any invite. Wedding, shower, birthday...it takes away from the true meaning of giving a gift. JMO!
If your wedding is on LI, the majority of ppl give money anyway...most of the non-monetary gifts are from OOTers who have different types of weddings. So you probably have nothing to worry about and it's not necessary to write it...

Yes, it is beyond rude to ask for monetary gifts on the invitation. That being said, Bed Bath and Beyond gives cash back on anything you return off your registry. Problem solved.

Re: Monetary Gifts? - Invitation
In Italy, at 1st an entire family would come to a wedding with a picture frame. Now since things have changed with the economy and the EURO, couples write on the invite at the bottom, gifts in envelope are accepted.Do I think it is tacky yes, do I understand why they do it yes.
My aunt went to a bridal shower and they didnt include a registry and they asked when they RSVP and she said nope they want $.
I feel outside of New York/NJ/CT people bring a gift for the wedding not money. That is my biggest fear at my wedding bc it cost so much money.
I wouldnt write anything at all.
dont register at all

Re: Monetary Gifts? - Invitation
Don't write that on the invitation. Hardly anyone gives gifts to a wedding anyways. I think 1 or 2 people (out of 250) did that when my sister got married 2 years ago

Re: Monetary Gifts? - Invitation
It is considered improper etiquette to mention anything about gifts on an invitation.

Re: Monetary Gifts? - Invitation
There are always a few people who give gifts. Some of the gifts at my wedding were beautiful, expensive gifts off of my registry. And some were given because the guest simply could not afford to give what the others were. There was another gift situation which kind of rubbed me the wrong way at my wedding. I would say the high majority gave money, and some were overly generous.
It is inappropriate to mention it on an invite. But the BBB sounds like a good way to go for the Bridal Shower/E-party. After those events if you have no registry guests will get the hint.
