Money and wealth question

Original post by alina

Do your friends have misperceptions about your family income? And if so, do you try to change their 'view'? Do you care what they think about your financial status?

Some of our friends overestimate what we make, simply due to where we live and our occupations!!! And we're not liking it

So I wonder what can we do to change the situation (without full financial disclosure)

Re: Money and wealth question

I have friends who think that I have money based on the way I dress (I am a huge sale shopper) and I have friends who think I am struggling because they know my salary (I work in publishing, where they expect that you are a trust-fund baby who is just working for fun)

When people make assumptions in either direction, I tell them the truth. I dress nicely because I shop the sales and was blessed with a good eye for fashion regardless of the designer. I am getting by on my measely salary for the same reason: I shop sales. And the fact that I save!! I have always been a saver since I was a kid. I saved the money to put almost half of my car's total price as a deposit ($8K on a $20K car).

Yes, we all make choices abouot how we spend our money. How come two of my friends who make almost double my salary are always struggling?

I let people think what they want. And if they want to see my pay stub, I'll show them. I am not ashamed.

honestly...let them think whatever they want to think....your GOOD friends won't care....it's the friendship that matters. People think we have money cuz FH drives a Mustang and we're inviting almost 200 people to the wedding, he has a big screen TV...etc. Money doesn't matter IMO....and if it changes the friendships....who needs those type of people??
