Money Bag q's.....Ugh

Money Bag q's.....Ugh

Ladies, are you using a 'money bag'?

How does it work- Do I give it to someone to hold for the night? The guests who come to us with cards, do I direct them to the designated person (or accept them graciously and then pass them along)? Do I put it away at some point in the evening?

My mother purchased one for us and she's been pretty annoying over who holds on to it. (not to mention, its white.....nothing in my wedding is white)
I honestly don't even want to use it.

don't use it if you don't want to. how about a simple card box? they have them at michaels. you can put it in a prominent spot. I also hot glued my card box shut just in case. I'd worry about cards falling out of a money bag, especially if someone else was holding it

Crashing!

I think that is old school stuff. I was explaining to my mother about a card box and she was like 'What is that?!' She got a little upset saying that normally its a decorated bag and why am I deviating from tradition blah blah blah.

Don't use it if you don't want to.

That's what I wanted! SO much less awkward and I'd feel better knowing no one can get into it (or walk out with a giant box in hand )

Since I'm out of state, she hasn't really been involved in the planning much so if I turn down the few things she does contribute, its like she takes it personal.

Make a card box and conveniently forget the moneybag that doesn't match

I'm using the bag. Its just something for you to put cards in so you're not holding a stack of cards.

At most of the weddings I've been to (where there's no cardbox) when the bride and groom make the rounds at the tables, that's when most people do the hand off of the envelope.

I guess I'm a little old fashioned myself because I prefer handing the gift to the bride and groom instead of dropping it in the box or birdcage, though I've never seen anyone who had a cardbox have a problem.

Not sure who will hold it yet, but most likely one of my elderly aunts will 'guard' it all night, but she will just keep and eye on it for us. But if someone hands you a card, you just accept it and then give it to whoever is holding the bag to put it with the others.

What if you do both? While you're walking around saying hello to the people at the tables, carry the money bag with you to put the cards in....then go over and drop them in the card box so that no one is responsible for holding the bag!

I didn't do this bc I had a photo card box, but it sounds reasonable, no?!

Hahahahahah same here.

My mom was saying that you wouldn't want to just leave a box out of your sight though. I guess that is a good point.

Do they still do gift tables? Does that come off as presumptuous?

I'm not sure how it works lol, I've been to maybe 3 weddings in my lifetime and the most recent one was a super casual backyard bbq that had no etiquette.

I wanted the card box but my mom insisted on the bag. Luckily I borrowed mine so no money was spent. As for who held it, that was my grandmother. She had that thing so tight around her wrist that they'd have to cut her arm off to get it!!!

I say do what you want!! Or compromise, but make your mom hold the bag all night....she may change her mind when she wants to dance but can't!
