Money before contract?

Money before contract?

I asked a vendor for a contract and they told me I have to give a deposit before I can see a contract. Is this normal? It kind of makes me want to walk, but they have a great rep, I'm surprised so many other brides do this.

I only gave deposits after signing contracts.

The only vendor i went to, so far, is my RH. And we only exchanged money after signing the contract.

Its a little strange that they want you to pay before you even look at the contract...

Yeah to me that doesn't really make any sense.

If you really like them I'd tell them you don't feel comfortable.

I would not give any vendor money without a signed contract first!

that sounds sketchy. you should def see the contract before you give a deposit so you know what terms you are agreeing to.

I gave the money first to reserve my date at one place and then later signed the contract electronically. They were a really laid back sort of place and i trusted them. I did also get a packet of the who/what/where but nothing particularly formal. It made me somewhat nervous but i went with my gut and then a few days later the contract was presented. My situation may have been weird but like i said, it was more of a laid back type of a situation.

Every vendor is different. Some have typed up contracts, some just had write it into a form.

If you really do want to use them, can you put the deposit on your Credit Card? That way if something does go wrong you can get your money back.

thats a little odd --- unless you need to secure a popular date and know you want them but still have to negotiate and they confirm in writing the deposit is refundable I woulnd't bother.... no one has ever said anything like that to me when I went looking at vendors...

this- although i think with TP because i lived in FL i got mailed the contract and the receipt for my deposit at the same time- but i totally trusted tom so i wasn't worried.... all other vendors i had a contract first

ETA: i had a copy of TP's package form so i knew what i was paying for

if a vendor is insisting he get money before you can LOOK at the contract IMO is a bad sign
