Re: Money dance...
You dance around and people stick money in a box, a hat, clothes, etc...
Also called dollar dance (if I am thinking of the right thing)
sorry if anyone disagrees, but I think it is tacky.

Re: Money dance...
The traditional money dance:
The money donated to the bride and groom can be really significant. $700 to $1500 or $2000 is not uncommon. This can help the bride and groom get their marriage off to a good start financially. That's part of the idea of the money dance. The other idea is that the money dance offers guests a chance to spend some time with the bride or groom.
Each guest gets a chance to dance with the bride and groom if they choose during a slow song... and you attach money to them using pins...or to a sash they wear...
It is not a greek thing, i've seen it at a few weddings, my bro and sis in law did it. so I had my own dance with my brother... it was nice!

Re: Money dance...
I think if you did a poll at least 1/3 of people would find it at least somewhat tacky.
Most guests have already given a nice gift or cash, asking for more is a little rude.
I know a couple bucks is not a big deal, but if enough people consider it rude I'd pass.

Re: Money dance...
This is very common on the west coast where people give gifts not money. I haven't seen it here most likely because people bring money as it is. Now I want to do it cause its tradition in Alaska and I know my family will expect it. I just have to talk FH into it.

Re: Money dance...
In a lot of the more traditional weddings from my culture, when the bride and groom do their first dance, (traditional dance, not slow dance) the closest relatives will throw cash at them as they're doing that. And then after a few minutes, the main relatives will dance one on one w/ the bride or groom. I don't think that's tacky, it's part of the culture

That's probably why I've seen it at the majority of the weddings I've been to....
who wouldn't want a chance to dance with the bride and groom by themselves...
That's more important to me than the money..

Re: Money dance...
Personally, I think it is really tacky.
My FMIL demanded that FH's brother's wife do it at her wedding (she even brought an apron for her to wear and keep the money in!) and got super insulted when she refused.
I just feel like it makes you seem super greedy unless it is a tradition in your culture. I always thought it was like a Polish thing and the Greeks had something kind of similar
