What do you do if you don't want to register because you and FH have pretty much everything you need and you want to tell guests to just give you cash (of course without actually saying it)
How do you word it in invites, etc. or do you not?

I just wouldnt register. I dont think I would specify money though. I think most people give money at weddings anyway

FH and I are in the same boat. We both own our own homes and do not plan to register at stores like Macys, Target, Bed Bath..If anything, we have 4 sets of cookware and china between us, 6 couches, 3 desks, and so much clothing and housewares we may have to consider moving into a bigger house to accomodate all of it!!
We are definitely doing a honeymoon registry..My dilemma right now is figuring out a creative way to tell our guests about it because I'm not having a bridal shower...

ooooohhh i have an idea for a creative way to send info about your hm registry or a more 'money based registry'. when you send your save the dates, include your wedding website and have your registry as a link on your website. that way, when people get your save the date and then browse your website, they will see where and what you are registered for. totally acceptable! There are websites like myregistry.com where you can register for cash gifts or hm registry sites.

I def. would not put it on the invite... I would not register if I was you and I would do it word of mouth. I told my mom that if anyone asked what they should get us, to tell them to just give us money. I would not put it on the website either.

OMG, that is exactly what I was thinking about doing and I was going to ask this question when I get home tonight! FH and I have been living together for two years and unless we can register for a new living room/dining room/bedroom set, we don't really need anything!

First thing first girls is it bad etiquette to do so!! WARNING!! guest will find that so offensive.. again its up to the guest to choose whether they want to give money or gift.. Just dont register! but i thinkbed bath and beyond cash back when you return from your registry.. check it out.. and if you are going on a honeymoon you can do a registry for that, your guests can pay for the different kind of ammenites on your trip... dont tell them money thou... * i hope i didnt offend you but i dont want anyone think anything less of you!

Re: Money Money Money Money
first of all it is def not poor etiquette to put your wedding website on your save the date. second all wedding websites have a link to a registry of some sort because most couples register for SOMETHING. if you do not register at all....you could end up with like ten toasters or something. a prime example of poor etiquette would be to put registry information on your wedding invitation. people want to know what to get for you. if you register for 'money' per say make sure that you register for a few small things as well. everyone needs a little something for the house. new sheets, towels, table cloths stuff like that you could always register for because those are things that will ALWAYS be welcome gifts when you have a home together.

ITA. I don't think anyone would actually request money on a registry...that would be totally without class. But to simply register for a small amount of gifts is a very good idea, along with the honeymoon registry.
edited for typo

no i am not talking about ur response! that is fine but you never put it on a invite or a std... you should never have 'cash gifts prefered' or even ' monetary gifts only' thats is poor etiquette.. sorry for the misunderstanding

I think you should maybe register at BBB where you can get cash back, and also do a honeymoom registry. Just include the link to your website on the STDs.

Re: Money Money Money Money
The HM registry is becoming more and more popular...I would do that and register for small things at BBB. Plus can also register for gift cards there...but I agree, I would not suggest putting anything on the website or especially the invite about cash gifts preferred. First of all if you are marrying in NY most ppl give cash anyway...second of all it's in poor taste and could turn off your guests...think how you would feel if you got an invite that said Cash GIfts Preferred...!
A long time ago there was a wedding mentioned on here where on the invite it said 'No boxed gifts' A lot of brides had a lot to say about that one lol!
I honestly haven't heard of anyone giving or receiving a purchased gift for a wedding. Most people give a card with a check.
If you're having a bridal shower you can do a honeymoon registry. You can create your own registry cards and insert them with the shower invites or you can put where you are registered on the shower invite.

Use a HM registry of BBB so you can return for cash. Or simply don't register. I think most people will give you money anyway.

Re: Money Money Money Money
It might just be me, but I always found it tacky for brides to include registry information with their invites. I would rather make no reference to gifts. If guests want to give gifts they will either a) just give you money (which is preferable), b) ask a family membe,r in which case they can then tell them that you have everything you need for your home and money will probably be best, or c) they will just buy you some gift they like and you probably won't...
I had also heard of a bride who rather than including registry informaiton included a piece of paper in her invites saying something along the lines of 'Gifts are not expected, but if you would like to give us a gift the most useful would be cash as we already have our home set'. I don't think that is rude.
Or you can register on one of the websites like honeyfund or other ones where guests can contribute cash towards your honeymoon or other necessary household items.

I received an invite once that said 'no boxed gifts please'. Of course, I SO wanted to come in to their wedding with a HUGE boxed gift just for spite. I didn't...but in hindsight, I should have. :insert evil devil smiley here:

You definitely can't say cash gifts only. But if you don't register anywhere I am sure most people will just give money. The HM registry is a great way to basically get cash, with the guests feeling like they gave a gift so def look into that. Good luck!!

I wouldn't say anything about cash on invite or save the date. If you don't want to register, just let people know by word of mouth that you have everything you need, so hopefully they get the hint. If not, you can also do a honeymoon registry.
