Number 1 Money-saving Rule: Just because someone on LIW did it doesn't mean I have to!

-- but also true!

I have more - I just need to compile a list and type them later!

I was thinking that the best tip I would give is not only setting a budget but sticking to it! It is so tempting to think...'This wedding is already costing so much..what is a few hundred dollars? ' Think that way with a few vendors and it really startes to add up

Spend more on things that are most important to you and vice versa

The best thing you can do to save money is to get on the ball early and give yourself LOTS of time to shop around. You can get fantastic vendors for less money if you're not feeling like you're in a crunch and have to pick someone, anyone. None of our vendors are over $1k.

Also, get a photographer who will give you all of your pictures on a disk and you can put together your own album, and your parents album, and you can pick individual shots for your own thank you's. Albums are anywhere from $200 - $500 - thats a big chunk of change.

Go with candles/petals etc. for centerpieces. Personally, we're spending about $150 for 20 tables. You don't need 15 topiaries for 4 hours, really.

Print your own invites/STD's/programs etc. 250 sheets of cardstock is $11. That fills 125 5x5 pocketfold invites, with an invitation on a backing and 4 inserts (RSVP postcard, hotels, menu, directions).

keep your savings in a bank with a good interest rate!! for example HSBC online acct is at 5.25% and every once in a while it goes to 6% for $ transferred in... ( sorry the accountant in me)

negotiate with vendors.. try paying in cash to skip paying tax..

shop around.. dont always book the first vendor you meet!

VERY GOOD POINT!

Getting a vendor to throw in things you don't really want for 'free' isn't saving money... Getting them to lower the price on what you DO want is.

I asked my hall for a discount b/c I'm getting married on a Sunday night in March,
I got my dress at a sample sale for $280 which includes unlimited alterations,
I'm not doing programs,
no bridal party - only a MOH and Best Man,
buying invitations online,
great site for favors: bluerainbowdesign.com,
my photographer is letting us pay 50% of our bill AFTER our honeymoon,
if I think of anything else I'll post again.

Re: money saving tips

The following are the only things that are necessary in order to get married:

* You and your significant other.

* The proper paperwork.

* Someone to marry you (priest, rabbi, Justice of the Peace, Elvis impersonator).

* A witness or two.

When you are asking 'Do I need to have...' the answer is no! Taken from
this site.
