My mother in law has mentioned sevral times that I should have a 'money shower' I dont want a money shower! Yes, we need the money, yes, I do have things because I'm older, but I want a regualr shower with regular gifts from my registry. I deserve to have new things for my new married life. My stuff is all second hand and old! I told my MOH and sister that I dont want a money shower. I think its tacky. I never heard of this. Have you????

Re: Money shower?????
I've never heard of a money shower before. I think that you should have whatever type of shower you want!! After all, it's your shower!

Re: Money shower?????
I never heard of this. i guess it could work but some may think its tacky. But i could totally understand if you needed teh mney but i also think alot of people might feel uncomfortable giving $$ for a shwoer and may prefer a gift. JMO i know I am torn I can easily see both sides of it. i know I wasnt much help.

Re: Money shower?????
I think you definately deserve new things for your married life. I also think most people (esp. the older family members) might be slightly put off by a 'money shower'.. People are more likely to spend more $$$ on a great gift than they might have given in cash.
Good Luck

Re: Money shower?????
I don't think having a money shower would sit well with your guests. Personally, I would be a bit put off by it. Since you want new stuff anyway I would just put my foot down and say 'I want a traditional shower'.
BTW, we got a lot of gift certificates which is almost like cash. Also, bed bath & beyond has a cash refund policy for items on registry lists. It's another option to get cash with out asking for it out right.

money showers tend to be for people that have everything.... so if you want new stuff, then have a regular shower

I never heard of a money shower - but in my opinion - that would be in very bad taste - how can you invite someone to a 'shower' and tell them just bring me money?

Re: Money shower?????
I know they have money showers in other parts of the country. The same places that usually give you a physical gift at the wedding. Guess they just reverse things from here.

I've never heard of it either & agree its tacky.
If she is that gung ho about the idea, she can always tell all her friends/family attending to only give you cash if that'll make her feel better! Good luck!

Re: Money shower?????
I think maybe a money shower is acceptable in certain cultures but to be honest I've never known anyone to have one. I would rather get things like towels, kitchen accessories etc. I am in your boat, I have been on my own and would like some replacements too. Some people just give money and I wonder if more will at my shower since they figure I have all the stuff I need. But then again I do have 2 registries and people know about it.

I have never heard of a money shower and to be honest, if I was invited to one, I probably would not go. I too find it very tacky.
You should have the type of shower YOU want, not what others want.

Re: Money shower?????
I agree.. if you want a shower with presents then that's what you should have...
By the way, does anyone know how the whole registering for a house works? I'm not doing it but I was just curious..

Re: Money shower?????
There are new things like having people actually pay for your wedding by buying things like the DJ and also putting money towards a house. its set up in a registry format. I think thats where my Mom in law got the whole money shower idea. I just dont like it though. I guess im just to tradtional!

Re: Money shower?????
Sorry .. but I have to say.. everyone keeps saying they don’t know what it is, but they’re against it.
Well, what IS a money shower???
I can’t make a statement until I know what it is.
My family is suggesting to my out of town family that can’t/won’t make it anyway that they partake in sponsorship. It’s really quite traditional in our family to have an Aunt sponsor the flowers and an Uncle sponsor the booze. They give in monetary donations and ask to be listed as sponsoring a certain item. They are listed on the program to give proper ‘representation’. I would be happier than a pig in mud if these lazy old nosy buggers would support my wedding instead of showing up.
It may sound tacky to others, but some folks have NOT figured out what a registry is meant for. Don’t buy me stuff that isn’t on my registry it messes things up!! My point is, give me the money and I’ll put it to good use. Maybe it’s cause I’m not a ‘New Yorker’ and things are done differently other places.

Re: Money shower?????
I heard of it but by a table of disgruntled ladies! I personally would be offended at my friends baby shower her aunt was saying she got an invitation to a bridal shower marked on the bottom 'GREEN ONLY' she thought what the heck is that?? then her friend said money only its kinda tacky IMO And everyone at the table thought it was nuts. I do not think it is a very common thing.
She joked she would buy a present that is green LOL Like green towels!

Re: Money shower?????
Go and register and spread the word that you did. Let your shower guests decide if they want to give a gift off your registery or cash.
