Moral question about work

Should I go home?

I work for a company that offers 'summer hours' in which we work an extra 45 minutes Mon-Thurs and get half-day Fridays. Because of my lengthy LI commute I asked my boss if I could just continue 9-5 all week. He said sure.

My moral dilemma: Everyone has gone home over two hours ago and I really don't have much work to do. Is it wrong to go home early? Should I stay 'til five?

Re: Moral question about work

If you don't have work to do, I'd go home. I'm not a big fan of punching the clock.

Re: Moral question about work

I would leave. When the cat's away...the mice will play - they all know this.

Re: Moral question about work

I am basically here by myself. My whole office went home. We don't have timeclocks. My boss went home, the girl in the office next to me went home (and she usually stays all day every day)

I am thinking maybe I will leave around 4:15-30.

Re: Moral question about work

i'd take off if your boss was OK with it ...I always used to do that in the summer. But then again this is advertising.

Re: Moral question about work

If he isn't the type of boss to call you and check up, go home and start your weekend.

Re: Moral question about work

I'd go home but I'd shoot my boss an email to let him/her know. That way it doesn't look like you are sneaking around.

Re: Moral question about work

Just so everyone knows. My boss is not here. No one is here except a few crazy editors (who I am convinced live here) and the cleaning staff.

I'm leaving at 4:30. My boss has no reason to call me. He is probably home enjoying the afternoon

Okay, so I am doing some busy work and cleaning my desk. I am making use of the time. I wil leave in a little while, though. Thanks for the opinions, ladies.

Re: Moral question about work

Sorry, I know I am not going to be popular for this one. I'd probably stay. Do you plan on leaving early every Friday, since no-one else is there? If so, it really isn't fair to your co-workers because you'd be working less than they are.

Personally, I'd try to call my boss to ask if I could leave today and then change my schedule to work the additional 45 minutes daily.

Don't hate me, its just my opinion.

Re: Moral question about work

I don't plan on leaving early every Friday, but I figure that I am here before 9 every day and I stay until at least 5:15 AND there is nothing to do today.

So, what's worse? Going home early or sitting in my office on LIW until 5PM?
