more invite wording help

Original post by Espo22

ok this is what i picked, obviously its a sample so not our names...but my question is, is there any way to put the mothers names along with the fathers for each set of parents, and it not to get too cluttered and fit

Mr. and Mrs. Rick White
and
Mr. and Mrs. Tim Burrough
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their children
Sharon Lynn Nicco
and
Todd Michael Reynolds
as they happily unite
their hearts, their lives and

I think I am including the mom's names too. Not sure about rules on that but I don't really care - I want them in there. My wording will be the one with my parent's names, then our names, and then 'son of' and his parents names. So I'm planning on writing (not real names)

Mr. and Mrs. George and Eileen Hogan
Blah Blah Blah

son of
Mr. and Mrs. John and Karen McHale

It will definately be more writing but I don't think it'll look bad.
If you think it's important for their names to be on it then I'm sure you can find a layout or font or whatever that'll work

is that how you would do it by writing it exactly like : mr. and mrs. george and eileen hogan

The ONLY acceptable way to put the woman's name on an invitation is to completely omit the titles.

She IS mentioned ... she is 'Mrs.' in the 'Mr. and Mrs.'

And then you have taken the level of formality of the invitations down a whole bunch of notches. If you are having a formal affair, and you want people to dress appropriately (and possibly even gift appropriately), then I would suggest going with the formal and traditional wording.

It should be either:
Mr. and Mrs. George Hogan
OR
Eileen and George Hogan

It gives the appearance that they are separated or divorced if you list them separately like this:
Mrs. Eileen Hogan and Mr. George Hogan

yeah i dont want to take their titles out either lol. Its also funny because both of our fathers have the same name so it will be mrs and mrs mario smith and mr and mrs mario doe lol

My honest advice is to pick one or the other .... It *really* looks funny to do it any other way. Like its the kind of thing that people actually notice and might comment on ... even if they'd never say it to you ...

I don't think this is one of those 'its your day, do it however you want' kind of things ....

I wouldn't give so much advice to anyone else, you're lucky I like you!

I havn't ordered invitations yet but so far that is the way I like it best. I like the
mr. and mrs. george and eileen hogan
better than the
mr. george and mrs. eileen hogan

but like I said earlier though I'm really not sure if it's considered 'right'.

I agree. Mr. George Smith & Mrs. Linda Smith sounds like they are separated or divorced.

Mr. & Mrs. George and Linda Smith might not be proper, but I think it's the best way to go if you are really set on including both parents first names.

Hmm, I guess since I don't really notice these things I didn't think it was a big deal and I felt like including the mom's names was important even though they didn't ask. Maybe I will reconsider - not sure yet - still have time for invites but good luck on whatever you decide

How about if you use the mothers' names on the programs? Maybe even write a little dedication or something.

Re: more invite wording help

wait, I honestly don't think there is ANYTHING wrong with doing it this way

Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith
and
Mr. and Mrs. Ted and Marie Turner

request the honour of your presence at

etc.

what's bad about that? doesn't sound like they are divorced, still has the titles, and moms names. Unless your parents' names are obscenely long I don't see why it's a problem.

ETA: i think also if you want to recognize both parents equally (since like you said you don't want it to be about whose paying for what) I wouldn't do son of and the groom's parents at the bottom. I would do it all up top.

Re: more invite wording help

I think it also depends on who is paying for the wedding. In my daughters case my son in laws parents did everything 50-50 and so they were entitled to be mentioned at the beginning. If not paying or very little help then you could put them at the end with the son of ______.
My daughter's read:

Mr and Mrs Bill ______
and
Mr and Mrs. Joseph ___________
Request the pleasure of your company
at the marriage of their children

Simone Helaine

and

Anthony Patrick

saturday, the _____________
so on and so forth...........
Hope this helps. There names were much bigger and in a script font while the other writing was smaller and printed all in small capital letters.
