More Opinions Please, Recpetion Halls in Manhattan - (Sorry)
I am new here and already driving everyone nuts!! But I am trying to plan for next December. Has anyone been to any of the following reception places in Manhattan? The Lighthouse (at Chleasea Piers), the Puck Building or The Landmark Mansion?

I've been to the Puck Building, it is absolutely beautiful, but it is what you make it. It's a space, and everything that goes into it is up to you. I've been to a few different events there, and every single one was just phenomenal!

Have you visited these places? They are all quite different so I think one will 'speak' to you more than the others and you will know right away.I have a long list of NYC sites but it all depends on what sort of wedding you are looking for.

I've been to the Lighthouse and it is very pricey. There are several places in Mnahattan but it all depends on what you are looking for and how large the wedding will be. We wanted our reception in the city as well but with the number of guests we expect it just wasn't possible.

I am looking for a classically simple and elegant reception hall, but one that will still allow my guests to feel at ease. I am counting on having about 100-120 guests max.

Re: More Opinions Please, Recpetion Halls in Manhattan - (Sorry)
The $$ issue is a bit tricky. I understand that I will probably have to spend about $200+ pp. Which is why I am trying to keep the guest list very small. I just want to make sure that the place is not too 'stuffy' - I want my guests to feel comfortable.

If you are only have 120 guests, you wont be able to use the Lighthouse because they high mins., the other 2 have site fees which become really high if you can only distribute over 120 plates.Have you looked at smaller venues? I had my wedding for $125pp at the Yale Club for 117 people. With tax it was $160 but it was still really great. Beautiful rooms and good food and excellent waitstaff. If the Yale Club is not your deal, there are a ton of other venues that are less than 200/pp.

Hmmm. I was recently at the Princeton Club for an award ceremony. It was beautiful, but the room we were in was not suitable for a wedding. Does the Yale Club have a website I can look at?

Are you restricted only to NYC? There are soo many places that you can have all those dear to you and more for a fraction of the price....The landmark will charge you a site fee and there are extra charges as well, and the lighthouse does have a min.
Why not try the Chemist Club? or Metronome? Firbird? Manhattan Penthouse, The Mark? Casa Italiana.. Metrazur, 21 Club, Loft 11, Lotus... not sure what you are looking into..

Marcella, I am actually looking into some of the places you mentioned on the weddingfacilitiesandservices.com website. It's not that I am limited to Manhattan, but everyone else in my family has always gotten married on Long Island and I wanted to do something different - also I want to take my pictures in the city. But, I know I won't be able to make decision until I see a few places and decide what I am looking for. Have you been to any of the places you mentioned before?

A really good resource for you would be paintthetownred.net. The list a zillion locations by size, so you can find places that will support your party size.

Xmas: The Yale Club does have a website but Im not sure you get the real feel of the place from the site since its not meant to be a wedding place. If you want you can compare their website with my photos and see what you think. If you have questions, just ask. (The Priceton club is right around the corner)Here is the room I used for my cocktail hour:
Library
Here is the room I used for my dinner/dancing:
Main Lounge
Here are some photos of my wedding using these rooms: All the photos
The ceilings in both rooms are really amazing!
To get the rate I got, you need to go through IGMC. The Yale Club starts at $160 plus tax and tip for people on the street. IGMC also has a ton of other great venues to choose from. One other nice option is the Downtown Mansion which is really beautiful for a reasonable price. The only drawback is that its in the financial district.

Re: More Opinions Please, Recpetion Halls in Manhattan - (Sorry)
I'm the same.. I didn't want to get married in LI, espcially after having a very wedding-like e-party at the Fox Hollow, so I looked at a whole bunches of places in NYC, where I really had my heart set on getting married.. The one place I fell in love with was Studio 450 but after careful thinking, I realized that paying 8500 for just a site fee and then having to get a caterer and EVERYTHING else, (like, plates, silverwarre, tables, chairs, linens, etc.) it was just too much to handle... Instead I'm still getting married in the city (Old Saint Patrick's, Little Italy, NYC) and having my reception in Brooklyn, at the Grand Prospect Hall.. the place is totally dif, that's for sure, if you want more info on it, def forum mail me and I'll give you the details..Great site Mistyeyed.. that's the site I used to start looking.. I must have gone on a rampage over the summer and went to 15684213 dif places..
Also know, that alot of these places here will either charge you a site fee (which I think is absolutely bogus) or charge you up to 300 bucks plate! def look around.. Manhattan Penthouse was pretty reasonable, they gave me a quote of like 150/person for Sept/Oct, I think.. (I have the papers at home) and the cocktail hour is on one floor and the sit down and dancing on another.. but even though the guy said that it would fit 150-175, it looks like the place would be adequate for 100-120 people..
sorry so long!

Re: More Opinions Please, Recpetion Halls in Manhattan - (Sorry)
I used the same caterer that does the Tribeca Rooftop (Lovin Oven) and they are fabulous!!they also have the 5th club...
I think both are under $200pp...but not sure about minimums..
www.lovinoven.com
also there is an Otto Kahn Mansion on Park ...I think...Its beautiful and it was/is going through renovations...I think they have smaller minimums...and if they are still renovating you may get a break...since you can't see exactly what it looks like...
Good Luck
