It normally takes 40

3 hours! 3 hours!

And NO ONE to help out --- not a freakin traffic officer ... not a freakin MTA employee .... ONCE AGAIN, IT WAS A FEND FOR YOURSELF KIND OF DAY ....

It really scares me that something as simple too much rain can cause that much chaos ... I completely understand about flooding ... but NO ONE around to HELP or direct the masses just doesn't give me ANY confidence in this city.

I was on Queens Blvd with hundreds of people ... buses refused to stop, bus drivers were kicking people off of their buses and going out of service ....

God help us if something ever happens in this city again ...

I KNOW!!! 2 1/2 hours for me today - and I have to agree with the COMPLETE LACK of assistance from the MTA!!!! What the He// are we spending all this money on every dang month if they can't even divert traffic, at the least?!?! Penn was a MESS!! My train was almost an hour late getting in and then all the subways were closed down...... No one knew what was happening, I just heard from other people and decided to chance a bus ride uptown .... Yeah, me and all the other 600,000 people trying to get to work!! I ended up just walking but even that was a mess since no one knew where they were going and the streets were PACKED!!! ARGH!!! Where were the announcements!? Where were the MTA people?!? Where was ANYONE!?! Is it really so much to ask for a little information when things like this happen? How is our city not prepared for RAIN!?!?!?!?! This complete lack of organization is EXACTLY one of the reasons why I took my vacation during the Convention week......

Trust me... you would have been better off working the week of the convention and taking this week off.

Ask anyone that had to work last week. The commute was a piece of cake. This week is pure madness because of all the lackeys that took off last week are all desperate to get into work this week.

Re: Morning Commute

There was not one problem during the week of the convention. As for today, they announced what was going on on my subway numerous times. If you were walking down the street, what type of announcements are you looking for?

It's annoying, no doubt, but I think that you have to look at why it happened rather than just blaming the MTA for flooding. There are hundreds of trains traveling during rush hour. They can't divert everyone without a hitch, it's just not possible. I was just as annoyed as everyone else but the annoyance should be directed at the right problem. Think of how frustrating it is for you when you can't do your job because of forces out of your control. Now imagine you have thousands of people b*tching you out for this same thing that frustrates the hell out of you and yet you still have no control over it. It sucks, I can't even imagine.

Let's just all hope things get cleared up before we all head home tonight!

OMG. FH left the ouse at 6:45 a.m. He drives 20 min to my parent's house in queens to take the subway. He didn't get to my house until 9:45! And then he had to get on the train and I don't even think he's there yet!

Re: Morning Commute

I waited at Penn for almost 15 minutes waiting to hear some kind of announcement before I gave up and walked up to the street. I just think that someone could have at least been notifying the hundreds trying to get to the trains that the subways weren't running, that's all. UGH I just had to vent. It's just frustrating. DJPill I think you're right - I'm one of the lackeys getting back to work this week, now i DO wish I switched my vacation

Crossing my fingers that everything is cool by the evening commute!!!

Oh and in case anyone isn't aware... its pouring right now in Queens. Doesn't look like the rain is stopping anytime soon. At around 9:30 it looked like it was going to start to clear up too.

The evening rush is gonna be a mess.

UGH! FH didn't even get to work yet, putting his commute at 5 hours and counting. He should have turned around and come home and stayed with me.

I'm just really thankful that we didn't get flooding here. We live in a basement!

We should start an LIW neighborhood carpool in case of transit problems. Brad and I could have taken other Forest Hills people to the city today...i felt guilty driving in with just the two of us!

What time do you take the train? I usually get to the station between 7:45 - 8:00 a.m. (depending on alternate side rules!)

We're usually there around 8. What station are you at, 71st or 67th? We get on at 67th.

I tried to drive in today and it was a total mess. Union Turnpike was one huge parking lot. So was Francis Lewis Blvd and the LIE.

Weird..we hit no traffic on the LIE at all. We got in from Forest Hills in half an hour.

I take the R the whole way. DH transfers to the E at Roosevelt.

Ahh, didn't realize you guys were so far - I take the F from 75th. Where do you guys live? I'm on 112th between 72nd and 72nd. Directly behind the Kennedy House.

Here's my saga. Day 2 of work, by the way, and I'm technically supposed to be in by 9:45. I take the Hunterspoint Ave train from Mineola, but they don't tell us til we get to Jamaica that there's no Hunterspoint Ave service because of flooding. I get on the express to Penn, but then decide to get off at Woodside and take the 7 to Grand Central because I work in the MetLife building. Big mistake!!! I waited for 40 minutes on the platform. 4 trains went by but there was absolutely no room on them. I was finally able to squeeze myself on a train at 10am and got to work at 10:33. I'm never going to Woodside again!!!
