It seems every bank FH and I go to, one no sits down with you in the branch to fill out the paperwork for this. Its getting really frustrating. Now we have to wait for this guy from the main branch to call us and then hopefully he will be able to meet us at our branch. the other day we went to the teachers credit union they tell us that we have to call the westbury office and make an appointment, but they also gave us paper work to fill out in the meantime. I called and they tell me to do it online... NO!!! We want to sit down with a person. this is our first time doing this, we want people to explain the process to us and answer our questions. I love technology but come on!
anyone else have this problem?
I hope this guy gets back to us soon.

Re: Mortgage pre- approval
We looked for houses just as a gag a few months ago - we didn't bother with a bank. We went to the realtor - they do it too. I'm not sure if you guys have Weichert Real Estate in LI, but their in-house financial guys were super helpful here and told us of all sorts of 'tricks' and tips, etc. we just aren't ready right now. Good luck. (it kind of reminds me of when you get a leased or financed car and the dealership helps you and you never deal w/a bank).

Re: Mortgage pre- approval
i'm in the middle of getting pre approved as well. i always thought you would sit down with someone to go over things, but apparently this isn't the case. my aunt is a real estate agent and gave me the name of a person at a mortgage company that her agency deals with. i called him, spoke with him almost everyday over about a weeks time and was pretty much approved. he rambled off things, i had to ask for explanations. he told me he would do what was best for me based on all the information i gave him. i don't think he's lying. i felt comfortable after speaking with him over a week and emailing as well.
so i guess this is what most people go through. i thought it was just my place!

Re: Mortgage pre- approval
You should TOATALLY sit down and meet with your mortgage consultant face to face and feel comfortable. It is a scary time for the mortgage industry and you have to TRUST the person who is working with you. There is a lor of scumm out there and a lot of people have gotten screwed

Re: Mortgage pre- approval
You will get a higher pre-approval rate if you go to a mortgage company instead of a bank. We would have been approved for less if we went through the credit union.
