Re: Mosquitos and other bugs...

I think those torches work pretty well. This is going to be a rough summer for mosquitoes, since we've had so much rain! I've already a few in my apt!

Re: Mosquitos and other bugs...

We have the OFF torch candle things-- duh that doesnt really describe it-- the look like lanterns (sold in Home Depot) and they have rechargable wick things-- they work really well and come in different colors(if that matters to you)

Re: Mosquitos and other bugs...

Thanks Laura - I was looking at the whole OFF line. They have torches, spray, candle and the things you showed... I need to know if Im going to waste my $$ by buying a whole bunch of them. Do they work far away or only if you are sitting right next to them???

Re: Mosquitos and other bugs...

NO they work really well--on the package it tells you how many feet-- we have a decent size deck(not huge not small) and I bought 2 (one for each end) but we usually only use one-- will you be ALL over the backyard or in one area? The hanging ones look nice as well-- just follow the package recommendations and you should be fine--
Just make sure you light them BEFORE you see the bugs---that is important

Re: Mosquitos and other bugs...

I would also have some bug spray or skin so soft handy for people. At my e party it got buggy at night and we had to send a friend out to get some.

Re: Mosquitos and other bugs...

Sunny - Its a kids b-day party. The kids are from 5 to 3 months... having bug spray scares me when some are so little. Im hoping to avoid having anyone get bitten.

Re: Mosquitos and other bugs...

I have used the Yard Guard that you spray through attaching it to the hose for the times that we wanted to spend alot of time on the grass and it works very well. But its important to get enough for the size of area you will be spraying DH figured it out for me.

Re: Mosquitos and other bugs...

I don't blame you for wanting to avoid bugs- I hate them. I think that skin so soft is okay for babies- they also sell kid safe bug spray.
I used a candle- it comes in a terra cotta looking container with a cover- those work well. I do not remember the brand but know they sell them in the supermarket.

Re: Mosquitos and other bugs...

We just bought this heavy duty moquito control gadget from Brookstone, it is supposed to work on mosquitos for up to one acre. Let's hope!

I'll let you know how it works out!

Re: Mosquitos and other bugs...

The BEST (and cheapest!) thing you can get to keep away mosquitos is DRY ICE. Get a block of it and stick it in the far corner of your backyard. Mosquitos are attracted to carbon dioxide, and dry ice gives off TONS of carbon dioxide, so the mosquitos will head for it instead of your guests! Give it a try!! It works!!
