For me it would be Ruby Tuesday's...for some reason even the smell of that place can get me sick!

Appleees

Mortons- the food is good but it's not as good as it should be for what you pay. I felt a little violated when I paid a $300 dinner ill for 2 people.

Myasmom, I'm sure like most cultures, authenctic food is made for the likings of their country. Believe it or not, some countries like dishes made with dog. That sounds repulsive to us, but it's alien. I was just saying I really don't think they cook cat in everyday combo platters. Personally, I won't eat in Flushing or China town because I get grossed out of the restaurants there. That should have been my answer

I love food in Chinatown- I have a restauarant I go to all the time- yes it's slightly dirty there- but it is the ONLY place to get good, authentic Chinese in the city.

have you ever been to hung ying rice shop on mott....thats the best open all night.........black bean and lobster sauce........with soft shell crabs.........man now i am hungry......

I hate the Olive Garden. Great breadsticks, but I hate everything else about that place.

Me too! Love the breadsticks, hate that an Italian restaurant chain is doing so well in an area with great independent Italian restaurants!

Re: Most Hated Restaurant

When I was younger an Applebees meal made me poop myself. No joke.

I can't even pass by one without getting a 'wave.'

Bennigans make me sick as well.

The question is: Why do people frequent these places in this area of the country (esp. NYC) where there are so many wonderful options for home cooked meals in great little AUTHENTIC settings?

It amazes me to pass by one of these places in Manhattan and see it packed. And you pay like 16.99 for an entree of fake, processed, revolting food with the potential to make you sick - compared to a home cooked Italian meal in Little Italy for half the price...

Scary thing is - Places like the Olive Garden and other corporate evils have put, and are going to continue to put mom and pop restaurants out of business! FH and I try to stay away from them, and all crappy Franchises.

Support small businesses!!

The only place I won't eat right now is Chili's... because of their happy hour specials my friends always pick to go there. I'm so sick of it!

I also wouldn't go to Ruby Tuesday's for a while cuz they put the calories, etc. right on the menu - they've since moved it to a seperate menu...

Being in a small town Virginia they just don't have the great ethnic resturaunts (except for Mexican food)... So honestly, Olive Garden is ideal. I went to an 'Italian' Resturaunt here and it was awful. Me and FH were pronouncing what we were ordering like we said it at home and the Waitress looked at us like we had two heads.

If I lived on LI, I think I would have to agree with the chain restuarant thing. Funny though, Upstate, IMHO, has much better food at the same exact restaurants.

Re: Most Hated Restaurant

There are plenty of small, local, bad restaurants, but it's so much easier to pick on the chains! And yeah - the service varies from one location to another - but as far as food quality, these stand out to me as the absolute bottom of the barrel:

Olive Garden (I can tolerate a salad)
Applebees
Boulder Creek
Pizzeria Uno (or whatever the hell they call it now)
Chevy's

Those five must use the cheapest distributor out there, b/c the food is consistently low-grade. I've gotten chicken at Chevy's that you could blow bubbles with. Ugh - making myself sick... Anyway, I would need to be starving to death to consider eating at those places.

On a good note - I think that Chili's has far and away the best quality food for that type of chain restaurant, and Outback is right up there with them.
