Mother/daughter dance????

Hello all,
I am very close to my mother and would like to dedicate/dance the song 'wind beneath my wings' with her. She has been with me through the toughest times in my life and is helping me more than anyone else in my wedding plans.
How can I make it look appropriate. I know it is the traditional thing to dance with my father first which I would like to do, but should I add this on after my FH dances with his mother?

Any advice will be appreciated
Karen

Re: Mother/daughter dance????

Hi Karen..
I am also going to be dedicating 'wind beneath my wings' to my mother as well.
Sometime durring the night I will just have them announce it as they will my dance with my father.
I didnt really think of any other way to do it.
I dont see why you can make it an 'add on song', to another spotlight dance it actually might blend in better like that.

Re: Mother/daughter dance????

I went to a wedding a few weeks ago where the bride did this. She danced with her father in the beginning of the night. Then after the cake, she danced with her mom. I thought it flowed nicely. That way both of her parents had their 'own moments.'

Re: Mother/daughter dance????

I am doing this too. I emailed my DJ my music list last week and just asked him his opinion. He hasn't responded yet but is suppose to call me tonight! I will let you know what he says. A few of my friends have done this. They usually break up the 2 so you aren't boring people with slow dancing.

Re: Mother/daughter dance????

That's what I did. I danced with my Dad to Daddy's Little Girl, then my husband danced with his mom, then I dedicated Wind Beneath My Wings to my mom. It was really nice.

Re: Mother/daughter dance????

Hi all -
I was wondering about the mother/daughter dance too...but my father passed away three years ago and I want to acknowledge my mother and everything she has meant to me. We are planning on dancing to 'Sunshine On My Shoulders' by John Denver, which was 'our song' when I was like, 3. To this day she says she always thinks of me when she hears it and it always makes both of us cry. Do you guys think this is appropriate?

Also, so my brother will be walking me down the aisle and we are doing a sister-brother dance - probably to 'Diamond Girl' by Seals and Crofts. Does anyone think this is weird? We are very close and I want to acknowledge that. The words to Diamond Girl are not particularly romantic or anything but the sentiment is appropriate we think. Any thoughts?

Re: Mother/daughter dance????

Have you asked your mom for her opinion? I planned on dancing with my mom, since my dad has passed away, and I have always been very close with my mom. When I told her of this plan, she was horrified! She's really shy, and thought the whole thing was 'weird.' She said she'd do it if I really wanted it, but I don't want to make her uncomfortable. Oh well!

Re: Mother/daughter dance????

Yes - it was Mom's idea...she wanted to do it. I may have my brother dance with us, too, so that all 3 of us are together. And we'll get everyone else out there so that it's not too weird. Thanks!

Re: Mother/daughter dance????

Just wanted to add, that I don't think it's weird, I think it's really touching! Maybe my mom is the one who is weird.

Re: Mother/daughter dance????

Thanks for all the great comments guys. I feel better now. I will announce this dance after my FH dances with his mom. I will also remember to ask my mom if she is ok with it!
