Mother-in-laws to be

Is it just me, or does anyone else just not really like (or fit with) there mother-in-laws to be? I think she means well in the long-run, but she's just so overbearing and wants everything her way...and she's not even contributing alot to the wedding in terms of $$! ARGH!

i'm pretty fortunate....but made sure from day 1 that my FH deals with everything with her and I deal with my mom, or else I'm sure things would be hairy! GOOD LUCK!!!

I actually have a better time with my FMIL than I would have thought. But she is the step mom so I dont know if it would be different with his real mom

FH's mom passed away 9 yrs ago, so unfortunately i never met her, everyone says she would've loved me though, so that makes me happy but my FFIL & his new wife are wonderful people and i love them like they were my own parents. i'm really lucky!

OMG I agree. Mine is a heinous ***** who wants everything her way and wants to invite 40 of her friends but doesn't want to give any money,

I'll have the last laugh though....we've decided to elope in Disney World!

I've heard that many people have this problem. Im very very lucky that my fmil is great!! She does sooo much for FH and I- there is a lot we wouldn't have if it wern't for her.
Maybe yours will grow on you! Just give it some more time!

I feel the same way! I don't feel like I fit in with FMIL or FSILs. FH is like 15 and 17 years younger than his sisters and his mom is almost 70. So really his mom is the same generation as my Grammy and his sisters are the same generation as my parents, so I don't really have anything in common with them. We just talk about my daughter, lol. Not to mention his niece and nephew are only 10 years younger than me!

And their personalities are VERY different than mine, they're nice people, but it's hard to relate.

ETA: FH's mom is also not contributing anything to the wedding... and she keeps adding people to my list!!!! You girls who get along with your FMILs are LUCKY!!!!

I love FMIL and we get along great BUT i had an ex for 8 years and didnt really get along with his mom and always had to deal with things so i know what a pain it can be

We get along fine...but she has serious issues with money..and it gets really frustrating. Ex: We paid for her plane tickets to cancun because my FH owed her money for 'raising him'...hmm??..I guess it was his choice to be born then, huh??

OMG! Thats crazy! Im definitely in a similar boat. Everything is about $$$ to them and its like I owe them for every nice thing they ever did for us! Weird!

I dont even know where to start so Im just going to say, Im unfortunately in a very similar situation. They arent contributing anything to our wedding, which is fine, but they told FH that if we cant afford it on our own maybe we shouldnt be getting married!!! WHO SAYS THAT!!! Its very sad. They have three sons and all three of us girls that are with them, are pretty much going through the same thing. So weve gotten pretty close over it!

Welllll My FMIL is distant, but not from just FH and I, but from everyone in her family. That is except for her NEW Husband!! But we are sopposed to be meeting with her to talk wedding soon. Hopefuly it will be a good dinner. I want to have FH have a bettter relationship with his mom.. I think it is important!

Re: Mother-in-laws to be

I know what you mean. My FMIL thinks we're young and stupid and can't handle anything. Everything we do is the wrong thing, and rather than just saying, 'are you sure it's a good idea,' right away she's saying 'you guys don't know anything.' I just want to be like 'Hello, of course we're gonna make mistakes but how are we ever gonna learn if you keep telling us how it HAS to be done.' Plus, it's not that we're always wrong, sometimes we just have a different way of thinking, but if it's not the way she thinks, then it's the wrong way, and I'm so sick of it that I'm ready to throw her off a bridge!

My FMIL lives in another state so she cant really be that involved.
