Two things...one, any good places to go for Mother of the Bride dresses?
Second, just your thoughts...my bridesmaids are wearing black, my mom wants to wear black....is it ok for my mom to wear black too. I think I would prefer if she chose another color to stand out...but I don't know...thoughts???

Re: Mother of the Bride Dress
i guess she can wear black too but i think you're right to ask her to wear a different color... why not suggest a dark eggplant or chocolate...

Re: Mother of the Bride Dress
Maybe you can go shopping with your mom and bring her dresses in additional colors. My mom got hers at PM boutique in Oceanside. They had alot of beautiful dresses there and the sales woman will work hard to help her find the perfect dress. There were also lots of color options for all the dresses we saw. I would definitely recommend them.
She had gotten other dresses at Sugarplum, I think they have lower prices there.

I hear Totally You in Bellmore and My Daughter's Wedding in Great Neck are both good.
Personally, I wouldn't put your mom in the same color as the BM's. I'd want her to stand out a little more. But it's totally up to you.

Not sure where you live but i'm told blanchees in east rockaway and Sugarplum in Lynbrook have a large selection.
I cant see why they cant all wear black. As long as its a different dress all together it should be OK.

Re: Mother of the Bride Dress
as long as you don't mind her wearing black it's okay. But you have the right to suggest a different color (it can be dark too like brown or navy). My mom enjoyed trying on dresses in Totally You and Omnibus because they stocked her size so she could see what she looked like, but she ultimately ended up in Village Bridal in Bablyon. They have a whole room/mini salon for MOB! My fmil ended up in Bridal Reflections in Massapequa.

Re: Mother of the Bride Dress
Totally You in Bellmore, absolutely the best! They have a large selection for all sizes and the women there really know what to suggest. My mother who is soooo picky, found her dress there!

Re: Mother of the Bride Dress
Sooo funny. We're having a black and white wedding. My girls are in black and white. It just sooo happened that my Mom chose a black lace gown with champagne underlay, my FMIL chose Black and my Dad's wife is wearing Beige/Taupe. I think it's cool that everyone matches. My Mom's dress is lace and has accented 'glitter' so she will definitely POP. Besides, the Mother of the Bride NEVER goes unnoticed!

Re: Mother of the Bride Dress
My BMs are all wearing black too and my mom decided to go with a slate dress. I told her that she can wear whatever she wanted but to remember that we're doing 'black tie optional' and there might be a lot of people with black long dresses on. My girls will look different then everyone else but my mom wants to stand out a little bit more so she decided a slate or gray would be perfect. Any color goes with black except navy blue and dark brown. Suggest an eggplant or a dark gray/slate.
Good luck!
O! And Everyone is getting their dresses at the Wedding Plaza in Floral Park (my friends mom works there). FM me for more info.

Re: Mother of the Bride Dress
My mom got her dress for my brother's wedding last year at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa. They were great!
I would either have your mom wear black with some kind of sash (as long as your BMs aren't doing this) or maybe a deep, deep purple color
