Mother of the Bride Dress NIGHTMARE

So my mom and I are thinking of ideas of what she would wear to the wedding and she knows the bridesmaids are wearing red. So she says, i want to look 20 and wear red too! And I am like - ok... send me picture of what you like.

OMG. She is sending me all short low cut really skimpy dresses!

I am trying to politely tell her, that its inappropriate but she is being really stubborn. What do I do???

These were the ideas she sent by the way:

The 2nd picture wouldn't be terrible if it was full length. Tell Mom that you want her to stand apart from your bridesmaids because she's the most important in your eyes. Plus, you could say a longer length would make her look very classy while still looking young.

I agree with you that they are inappropriate. Maybe send her some pics of nice red full-length dresses and hope she likes one of those.

also, do you want her in the same color as the BM?????? Maybe have her in a complementary color but something deeper

what if shee also gets a jacket...like the second dress with a matching blazer wouldnt be awful...she can wear that for the ceremony and CH...if she wants to take it off and party during the reception...then i guess okay.

and in pics she will stand out from the BM cuz her arms will be covered. and look classy.

hth....

look online for SEXY mother of the bride pictures that are more 'tasteful' and are more MOB... those to me seem very sweet 16-ish
I just think your mom doesn't want to look like a frumpy MOB or GMOB!
try and find something off the shoulder or back-less but STILL TASTEFUL that 10 years from now she's not going to be all 'what was I thinking!?'

can't post picture:
Purple one, 3rd from the bottom

the following were found on ebay

LOVE this one:

If reasoning doesn't work, pull rank and tell her it's your wedding and she's not 20. Offer to pay (if you're not already) for her dress and that means you get a say in the color and style.

I know a girl whose mother was her MOH and she wore the same maroon/dark red colored dress but with a jacket. She definitely looked different.

I would say: Well guess what mom? This is MY wedding, and I really don't want you wearing a short red dress to my wedding!

I agree!

You have to be direct and tell her it is inappropriate and she may not wear that to your wedding. I would also ask her why she would feel the need to dress like a you know what at your wedding. She knows that would put her directly in the spotlight. My feeling is she is trying to compete with you and take the attention away from you. And while it is true that no one can steal the spotlight from the bride, she will be talked about by everyone and not in a good way. No one deserves that on her wedding day, especially from her own mom. Good Luck!

My colleague is going through something similar with her FMIL wanting to wear WHITE to the wedding. I think you should nicely explain to your mom that you want her to look elegant at your wedding and you will go with her to find a dress the looks amazing on her (and covers her body!).

Good Luck!

i agree- tell her you want her to stand out from the BM's...but not sure how to address the short thing?????
maybe if FMIL is wearing something more appropriate you can show her pics of that dress so maybe she'll get the hint to cover up a little
