My mom's dress is mostly black, it's a three piece with a black skirt and jacket. the top is platinum with black flowers. She tried on dresses in different colors and the black one looked so nice on her!

My mommy is wearing black!!
Its her fave and she feels most comfortable in it.. so more power to her!
as long as its not victorian lilac i don tcare (ok or white)

I told my FMIL it was ok to wear a black dress but she said if she did people may think she either doesnt like me or doesnt approve of the marriage.

I don't see a problem with it. My mom always wears black. But she is having second thoughts being that I am having my girls wear black. I really don't care either way, as long as she is comfortable.

On Long Island, definitely YES!

My mom considered it but since it was July (as is yours) she decided she wanted to look more summery and she knew a lot of people would be wearing black and wanted to stand out more.

it is fine to wear black to a wedding

However, I know in Italian culture that if a mother wears black she is mourning the loss of her son or daughter - and she is basically saying that she does not approve the marriage

for that reason my mother won't wear black and i mentioned it to my FMIL and she said she wouldn't wear it either

also if you wear red you are the groom's mistress HA HA

silly little customs. . . but if it doesnt bother you then she can wear whatever she wants!!
