Mother of the Groom Dress

I have a question. My fiance's mother just bought her dress over the weekend for our end of May wedding. She bought a black gown. We are getting married in May and having a day wedding at John Anthony's on the Water. Is this dress appropriate?

Mother of the Groom Dress

Some people are comfortable wearing black to any formal occasion such as a wedding no matter what the time of year or time of day, especially here in NY. If this is what she is happy with, I would not worry. When I was shopping for mother-of -the-bride gowns, with my mom, I was amazed at how many black gowns there were. Therefore, I guess black is popular. I know I have seen people's wedding pictures where either the MOB or MOG were wearing black. Again, I would not worry.

Mother of the Groom Dress

Thank you. I am really not worried, my sister and I were having an argument over it. She didnt feel it was appropriate, but I really don't care. I know my future mother in law will look beautiful no matter what. :-) Thanks for taking the time to reply. Good Luck to you. Denise

Not a problem

The mothers of the bride and groom at two of the recent weddings I went to wore black. These days anything goes!

Not a problem

My MIL wore a black dress to our afternoon wedding this fall and I thought it looked really nice in the pictures. I don't think it is inappropriate. Some people feel more comfortable in black in order to not upstage the bride with a bright color.

I would not be bothered

It would not bother me if my FI mom wore black,I do not want my mother to wear black, I want her to match with the same color scheme as the BM, like everyone else that is involed in the wedding that will be in formal pictures. This is just my choice
