Mother/Invite vent

Mother/Invite vent

So FH and I decided that even though we are paying for the wedding that we will be traditional and word our invites with our parents names 1st
Mr. and Mrs. XXX
and Mr. and mrs. XXX
request...

So now I need to address the response envelope and happend to tell my mother that I need to speak with FH about it and she asks why. So I say that we are putting their names on the invite but I think the response envelope should read our names (FH's and mine) and she literally almost starts crying (you should know my mom is very emotional ALWAYS). I don't get it. Yes, FH and I chose to pay for everything and yes my parents have told me time and time again that we will be getting the money they would have paid as our wedding gift. I don;t get what the big deal is. We ARE honoring them on our invites.

Parents are so odd.

My mom had me have the RSVP go to her address.

I didn't want to argue about so I just honored her request.

You know your mom best, if this truly upsets her and will cause riff - just give in, no need to argue over it.

Do what YOU want!!!!! Parents can guilt us into doing things we don't want to sometimes....Just be honest and try to reason with her...lol

Can you explain to her that it's so that YOU can keep track of the responses? I don't remember whether or not you and FI live together or w/your parents. I know it's more 'traditional' for the RSVPs to come to the parents of the brides' house.

Otherwise, a happy compromise (picking and choosing battles here) would be to put no one's name on it...and just an address!

It's funny that you say that. FH and I and my parents split the eparty (though they gave us the other 1/2 as our gift) but I put no one's name on the response and everyone (FH and my mom) was like why'd you do that. I live at home with my parents. Thanks for the advice. I may just not put a name again.
