Mothers

Is anyone else having a really hard time with their mother???? Mine is driving me crazy!!!! I'm really not sure who's wedding this is anymore. I can never keep her happy. She wants to be involved with everything...and to a degree that is fine...but sometimes my opinion is just not heard!!!! I feel like I can't even look in a bridal magazine or read posts on LIweddings with out her standing over my shoulder. Tonight I asked her for some space and it turned into a huge fight!!!! She is now threatening to return things she bought for me for the wedding....because I’m 'ungrateful'. All I did was ask her not to read over my shoulders that I wanted to look things up on my own right now. I know it such a silly fight...but it’s happening every day and it’s starting to really suck all the fun out of planning this wedding!
It makes it hard that I live at home because every time I turn around she is there. I love that she is interested in my wedding and she does have a lot of good advice and input.... but sometimes I just want to sit is peace and do things on my own.

Re: Mothers

I know how you feel. My mom puts down my ideas all the time and wants certain things at my wedding that I really don't want. I don't know what to do cause its mom and I don't want to upset her, both of my parents are too involved with my whole life including trying to convince me that my FH should be in the NYPD when he gets out of the Marine COrp. I am TOTALLY against that but they just think I'm unreasonable.

All I can say is DEEP DEEP breaths adn regular exercise, lots of it, lol, keep me sane. It's a small realease for me and MY TIME and my time alone when nobody can bother me.

I would take it as a complement that your Mom wants to help and give her opinions etc. Maybe because my Mom died 10 years ago, I would do anything to have her help me in the wedding planning. Remember it is one day, and she loves you.

I agree with you that i should be thankful to have my mother to help me plan this day. I lost my father to cancer many years ago and i would give anything to have him be apart of my wedding. i know that many girls arent as lucky as I am to have their mother with them during this time. I'll try to keep that in mind but its hard when we are constently fighting.

janwinterbridejoy..... I can't believe what your aunt is doing... I have to say it made me laugh and realize that i dont have it that bad

Re: Mothers

I had the same problem with my mother when I was planning my wedding. I had just moved out, so I was able to do a lot of things without her approval. She operated as if it was her wedding, she even said 'her wedding' a few times. But, she and my Dad were paying for the wedding...so she felt that she had the right to demand certain things. She hated my invites and complained to my brother's girlfriend about how awful they were and she was embarrassed to mail them to her friends. Actually I got a lot of compliments from people when they were mailed.

My advice to you, is to try and keep the peace. Be the bigger person...it's hard but, you might also try to sit down and talk with her.

ETA: I got the whole 'ungrateful' thing too...even though I thanked my parents every day. when I had constructive criticism for my Mom, she played the ungrateful card.

I know how you feel. It is even worse when your parents are paying for the whole wedding and your mom is going through menopause! She has done so much for me and has bought so many wonderful gifts, but sometimes I just wish she would put as much effort into being 'nice' to me as she does with buying me things. I think our fights also have a lot to do with the fact that I am so ready to move out and run my house the way I want to instead of living with her routines. Oh well, not too much longer until we can go back to being friends.
