Moving back home while engaged

Moving back home while engaged

Has anyone gone from living w/ FH, then moving back home once you got engaged to save money?

Right now we rent the upstairs apt. from FH family and his parents are charging us $900 a month. I'm going to be moving back home to save money and I was wondering if anyone else has been in this position before......if so has it hurt your relationship with FH?

I don't mean hurt like break up, I have a great relationship with FH but I guess I'm just curious to see how you adjusted?

Hope this makes sense, lol.

Fh rents an apartment in flushing for $700 a month. He is giving up his apartment to come live with my family to save money. Its seems the more logical to us instead of spending money when we dont have too

That's so nice of your family. My Mom told me she would love for us to both move back into their house but there's just not enough room and she and my Father want their privacy and I totally understand.

He's going to move back downstairs and like I aforementioned I'll be moving back home but I'm definitely going to miss coming home to him and sleeping with him every night but it's only temporarily.

FH and I lived together in his mom's house for a year and a half. Then we got jobs overseas that provided us with a VERY spacious 3 bedroom apartment--of which we only used half of. It was our first time being on our own together (without his mom) and having our very own place.

We came back two months ago and have been staying with his mom again. It has been harder than I ever imagined going from having our own home to living in someone else's again. I just accepted a job in Colorado and we just signed a lease on a place...so thankfully we will have our own place to live in together after the wedding.

But I do understand your situation. And I think it's smart for you to go back home to save some money. Especially with Long Island rental prices!

My FH and I are moving in with my parents (his parents live out of state) and I am concerned about it as well. I hope it does not change our relationship.

Are his parents going to rent out the upstairs apt when you move out? Any chance they'd negotiate the rent with you?

Our situation isn't quite the same since it involves long distance and no parents... we lived in dorm rooms next door to each other for 4 years at college and essentially lived together for our senior year. After seeing each other constantly for 4 years, I moved to England for grad school and he moved to Asia for work. We've been very long distance (7-9 time zones) for 20 months now. Right now there's no point during the day when we're both awake and not at work.

In our case, living apart really helped our relationship. We were great before but it was easy... apart, we needed to actually make an effort to see each other and stay together. That's what made FH realize he wanted to propose. He proposed about a year after we moved apart and hopefully around our 1 year engagement anniversary he'll join me here. Even if he doesn't, we'll make it though.

I think so long as you can still make time to see each other and to communicate, you'll get through it just fine. It definitely takes some adjusting, which can be tough. Just remember that it's temporary... keep your eye on your wedding and remind yourselves that things won't always be as they are now.

I moved in with FH and his family once we were engaged. It has definitely tested our relationship. FFIL and FSIL are nice enough but I cannot get accustomed to their quirks and FH and I often have to take long walks so we can discuss personal stuff.

FH moved in with me in my parent basement apt to save money.

Its not most ideal living situation, but saving the money is totally awesome, and actually pretty much necessary for us at this point. Before moving back into my parents house, i was living in an apt in florida so it was weird moving back in but its not so bad. We want to stay here until we have enough to buy a house which will hopefully be a year after wedding! Just stick it out, it will be worth it!

I did. It hasn't been extremely easy for me, but it isn't horrible either.
