Moving Out Anxiety

Moving Out Anxiety

I love FH more then anything and have no anxiety about marrying him, I know he is the one. My anxiety is about moving out. The closer we get the wedding the more I am freaking out. Its not about not living away from home, i lived on my own in DC for 3 years, its about how final it is. No matter where I was, I always felt like this was still my home. I love the house FH and I bought, but its an old house we have been fixing up and while its very nice, its not like my parents home. I will miss my beautiful bathroom, all organized with my stuff the way I have had it since I was 7. With my makeup table in the middle and my little built in shelves in the shower that I begged for when they redid it. Or my beautiful pink bedroom with the canopy bed that I used to admire in the guest room when I was little and finally got when I was 13, then redid at 17 to make it more adult. My room with the pretty antique furniture and my doll collection. What do I do with my doll collection? My Madame Alexanders and dolls from all around the world, dolls my parents and grandparents and father's employees have bought and some I collected myself. I don't want to be one of those women that have a room full of dolls. I can't put them in my own bedroom there. But I don't want to leave them behind either. And my loft, our basement in the sky that has my desk, a couch, a great storage closet, and a crafts table with an area for my scrap booking stuff. I am setting up an office at the new house, but its temporary, being it will be the first baby room. So then what?

Mostly the company... I love coming home to my mom being here. I love that when my mom decides she has to go to the store and I am home, I just hop in the car with her. Or if I have to go to the store and my mom is around, she will hop in the car with me. I love sitting on the couch with my dad in the evening and catching up while we watch our favorite TV shows, or eating with them every night. FH works in CT and isn't always home at night. So I will be eating alone a lot and hanging around by myself. And when FH is home, he likes to be out working, its a trait i love about him, but I will miss having the company on the couch and the time with my dad.

Sorry if this post makes me sound spoiled. But was in the bathroom this morning and almost started crying. I am really freaking out.

Aww hunny...don;t worry. Im not going to lie and say that moving out won't be difficult. But you will get used to it and slowly your house with FH will become your home. I think a lot of people go through what you are going through. This is kind of like a rite of passage...youre moving onto a new chapter in your life and though you don't have to completely leave it behind, your 'old' life will be changing...How far is your parent's house from your new house? It will take some getting used to, but I'm telling you there is nothing better than coming home to FH. He will take on that role that your mom currently does. I promise you it will be ok.

I know its a huge step at first but I promise you will get used to it and learn to love it. I hated moving out when I did but I had no choice. About 5 years ago my parents adopted my 3 cousins and I moved out to give them the extra space.. 2 years later they moved into a bigger house really close to FH and I.. I am there like everyday so I still get to hang out with my mom and dad and sister and brothers, but get to go home and have some peace and quiet at the same time! When my mom is going to the store I can still go with her.. we are pretty much around the block from eachother so I just meet her...

Maybe you can make sure you always have Sunday dinners with your family and always spend time with your mom.

Since FH isn't home a lot at night and your parents are really close, you can still hang out with your mom and dad at night. My mom lives about 10 minutes away from me. I've been on my own for 15 years - I still go hang at my mom's house at least twice a week!

I've been feeling like this too....and I don't know where I am going to put my 226 Barbie doll collection???
I'm feeling more anxiety about moving than the wedding.

Re: Moving Out Anxiety

I literally just posted about this the other day...I just moved in with FH and the first night I spent in the apartment I cried because I will never live with my mommy and daddy again. They also wasted no time in cleaning up the place so well that it almost looks like I never lived there. My dad told me that the bedroom will always be mine, but it just doesn't feel the same

The good news is that since I have been here I've been excited to come home every night, even if I come home to an empty apartment...because its the place that FH and I share.

OMG i am going through the SAME thing! i started to cry in the shower the other day, just knowing that my fam wont be there when i get out. but then i told myself that its the thought that is making me nuts. when we actually move in together its going to be so normal and natural that it will feel so right!

Re: Moving Out Anxiety

i just recently moved in with my fh(around 2 weeks ago) and i was so worried about moving because like all of you I felt like I was going to miss being home with everyone, but i have to say I have been really good. Sometimes it gets a little hard especially with food because i don't know how to cook and my mom makes dinner every day. But i live really close so I am here every day. I'm still getting use to the new place, but it's not as bad as i though it would be. Don't worry girls, it will be ok.

I completely feel the same way. I've never lived away from home, and neither has FH. We both commuted to school. At first I didn't think I'd have an issue, but I'm such a snob, and while my house is just a small ranch, it is IMMACULATE and done up perfectly. Beautiful hard wood floors, crown moldings, fresh paint, manicured lawns...I am very, very spoiled. And I know it's going to be a very, very long time before I will be in anything that nice again.

Plus, as much as I don't like to show it, I'll miss eating breakfast in the morning with my dad, even though I barely say 2 words to him.

I think I'd like my kids to go away to school, because I think this would be a little easier on me if I did.

lol me too! i couldnt wait to be on my own-but i still get to see my mom. Maybe it wasnt so hard for me because when i moved, so did my mom from our old house, so i dont consider where she is now home per se. I consider my apt now home.

Re: Moving Out Anxiety

I moved out of my Dads 2 year ago. I was the last one to leave and my mom passed away 6 years ago. I cried for about a month straight. I still cry sometimes when I leave his house. My room is exactly the same and all of my things are still there (my barbie collection). But I know I had to move in with My FH before we got engaged to see if it would work. Luckily it worked out and everything fell into place. Now my Dad wants us to move into his house (rent free) while he stays in the attached apartment so we can save for our own house.
