Moving out of the city----

Moving out of the city----

When I moved into the city, the company I got a job with paid for my relocation so I didn't have to go through the hassle of city moving.

Now I have to move stuff out and since we are buying a house we have no money for movers!

We are going to rent a U-Haul or something. I don't know how we are going to move my big couch in the little elevator in the building.

How did you guys move in/out from there????

Jyoti-

I know things are tight with buying a house and everything else that comes along with it, but if there is any way to save some money for movers, I would try to do it. I have moved from a one bedroom apartment three times already and everytime I think about doing it myself and my parents tell me I am crazy and I get movers and it is the best investment I could have made. There are some very reasonable ones out there. If you think about the cost to rent the U-Haul with miles, I think it might be close to the same amount as hiring movers.

I guess I should look into it. Do you have any recommendations?

Lemkau Movers I've used them twice and they did a great job and were reasonably priced.

Whatever you do, don't be tempted to use someone you get from a brokerage site. Unfortunately I did and I'm still getting headaches from it.

Re: Moving out of the city----

I moved into the city (2 diff. apts) and then back to Queens (2 diff. apts) and I always moved myself with help of DH and brothers and U-Haul/Penske trucks. I never had any big issues and some apts did have tight spaces to move the furniture...it wasn't bad.

But when I moved to LI - I hired movers. By then I had acquired some nicer furniture like a real dining room set and china closet and a big screen tv - so I didn't want to take any chances esp. since I had a very narrow entrance way in my apartment and I felt bad to keep bothering my brothers - lol.

I can't find the name of the moving company (from Queens) I used but I had a good experience with them. I am sure I posted before - if you feel like doing a search.

Whatever you do, do NOT use Ben Hur Moving in Manhattan. They screwed my friend over so bad!
