DH loves his iPod (but he loves Mac anything) and many others love their iPod too. There are other good MP3 players out there though. I would just be sure it has a lot of memory! Will he use extra features besides playing music (i.e. games, calendar, etc.)?

I have a Sony NetMD and I love it. It plays about 5 hours worth of songs.

I have the Dell DJ (the Dell version of the Ipod). I have the 15 gb one. it is a little cheaper than the ipod and uses music match jukebox to transfer the music. I love it because you can save playlists with music match and then those same playlists will be on the DJ. I love it and have no complaints. The battery lasts long! I even run with it and it doesn't skip
