I had never really heard of having more than 1 bridal shower until recently. A few of my friends have had 2 or more - hosted by their family, by FH's family, and some have separate friend and work bridal showers. I'm not really a huge fan of this - although all the extra presents would be nice, I just don't like the idea of my family and FH's family having separate showers, and I recently found out FMIL plans on throwing one. Doesn't it defeat the purpose of family unity? And I kind of feel like FMIL's shower is about her, her friends and her family, not me.
Am I thinking about this the wrong way? I'm almost offended by it - why wouldn't everyone get together in one place? Have any of you done this or heard of this?

Re: Multiple Bridal Showers
Ive heard of separates when it comes to coworkers and family but not both sides of the family having 2. I think I might be offended too.

Re: Multiple Bridal Showers
The only time I've really heard of having separate showers is when both families don't live near each other. For example, my girlfriend that lives in Delaware had 2 showers because her husband is from NY. So her family had a shower for her in DE and her MIL had a shower for her in NY. I agree w/ wanting to have 1 shower. I'd feel the same way.

Re: Multiple Bridal Showers
A few of my friends have had multiple showers. The one plus of them is that each one is slightly more intimate because there are less people there.

FH is from CT, so it's not that much travel time. Plus, no matter where we have it 90% of the guests will have to travel. Most of my friends that have had this live in CT - I wonder if it's a thing up there. It's funny because MY mom is being really cool about everything, and she said 'Well, the wedding is on LI so we can do the shower up there, in NJ (where I live) or in the city.' I would think it would be the other way around.

Re: Multiple Bridal Showers
I am having two showers, one here and one in Rochester. I have a lot of family members in Rochester/Buffalo (basically all of my family) so my dad thought it would be nice if I could have a shower there as well. I also have a lot of friends in Rochester/Buffalo from college so this will make it easier on some of them.

Re: Multiple Bridal Showers
For my friends shower she had seperate...one in MD for his family, one in NY for hers but as a bridesmaid...it seperated all of us b/c over half us are in MD and there was 4 of us from the NY/NJ area and it was inconvinient for everyone to have to go to both, so each BM then chose which shower they were going to and I didn't really care for it, I want all my BM together. The bride actually didn't want it but her FMIL was insisting on it.
She did have a third one that all of her teacher's threw for her, which was really nice.

Re: Multiple Bridal Showers
Im having 2 one here on long island for with my family, and 1/4 of anthony's family.
One upstate for the rest of Anthonys family. They're elderly so I wouldnt want them to drive down 3 hours and then back up three in 1 day. I go up once-twice a month for weekends.
