Music during reception

Music during reception

What kind of music is everyone having at their reception and how closely do you plan on monitoring what kind of music is played? I am a bit of a music junkie so I am making a list of all the songs played and the DJ is not to deviate from this list until it is approved by me. I know that may sound a little crazy but I am just SO AFRAID of the 'typical wedding songs' being played at my wedding. While I do not have a problem with any of those songs, there are just so many times people can dance to the same 70s disco songs at weddings before it gets played out! Luckily, FH's best friend has been DJ'ing for over 20 years and his guys are doing the wedding (since he will be IN the wedding). He already knows how much of a music nut I am so he was warned! Am I the only person who is being this anal retentive about the music???

I know FH won't be like this, but I will be totally anal about the music. The DJ we got I think will do a really great job but to me music is the most important vendor of the night so I'm going to make a big list of do's and don'ts to make sure we don't have any issues.

I told the guy last night, I'm generally a pretty laid back person when it comes to the wedding vendors. I'm like 'hey as long as you get the job done and it's nice I'm happy' but the one thing I WILL be a Bridezilla about is music.

I'm going to make a list of the songs I want played and the songs I DO NOT want played. I do not want any typical wedding songs. I cant dance to hands up or the electric slide one more time!

And I hate Grease! I know... I know. Many people love it but I'm just not one of them!

My FH is a huge music lover so I'm thinking a good mix of dance and rock.... with some classic slow ones.

I REFUSE to have Hands up OR the electric slide at my wedding!!!!!!!! Believe it or not, I have had a couple people request that I put those on my list but I will NOT!!!!

Mine is going to be a mix of 80s / dance / pop / and rock... I have a bunch of Italian relatives and spanish relatives attending so I will throw in a couple of popular italian and spanish songs but that's about it!

This is my biggest problem. Fh and I are VERy into music! We go to at least 10-20 concerts a year and always have the ipod going. I am just so nervous! I mean I feel that if I give my DJ a huge play and do not play list then I am hiring someone to play a list of songs I could of done for free with my ipod.

I guess I just have to find someone I am very comfortable with so I wont have to give them a huge list

LOL! Oh I believe it! At my MOH's wedding the DJ would not play any songs that were requested unless the bride agreed! I LOVED that!
I will be doing a few Italian songs as well! And a few Greek ones b/c FH is Greek and they are always fun to dance to!

Aww come on.. no electric slide!! I'm so upset!! Just kidding... I would definitley make a DO NOT play list so they avoid the songs you definitely do not want to hear...

You better be playing Splish Spash and Total Eclipse of the heart!!! Again J/k But that would be funny

I am sooooo there with you on this. I am very picky about music, and I will be giving my DJ a list of Do Not Plays as well as a list of all the songs that must be played.

My DJ is great though..we already went through some things, and I feel that he is on the same page as me. But still, just to be sure, I will be bridezilla on the music issue.

I'm doing the same thing. The list of music is made, but will be in constant evolution until about 2 weeks before the wedding. I'm going to send it to him a few months earlier in case he doesn't have something (I'll have it, no doubt).

Music is almost the most important thing to me, always has been, and it's my biggest project making sure the whole thing 'flows' as I want it to.

Re: Music during reception

i'm actually pretty much the opposite. besides eliminating any sort of line or group dance, i really want the DJs to do their thing. while i LOVE certain types of music, i don't think much of it is wedding music. these guys do weddings all the time and they know what brings people out of their seats. i'm sure i don't know better than them so i'm gonna let em go with the flow (and of course i'll mention some of my favs and be happy if they get thrown in)
