Music for the wedding

Music for the wedding

I am trying to find music for my wedding. The music is the most important aspect in FH's opinion. He said he doesn't care about anything else but the music....
So I'm trying to get him to come up to Long Island (we live in Philly) but I can only go up on weekends because I work during the week and am very low on vacation time. Do you know if bands/djs will meet with you during the weekends? Also any idea if there are ever any showcases on the weekends? Its hard planning a wedding from out of town. I'm not that far but only being able to do stuff on weekends is tough.

FH has this idea...to go to all of the showcases for free booze and appetizers.

Hey I've never posted before but I've been able to go and listen to bands (probably over 15) and its been the hardest decision so I figured I'd try to help....
Unfortunately most wedding-only type bands play showcases that are only during the week. The people who run those bands would probably be willing to meet with you at their offices over the weekend (and maybe even show you a video) but would you want to hear the band live first?
What kind of band are you looking for? Some bands play at bars in the city/Brooklyn on the weekends (which I have found to be the most fun to see)
A lot of the bands have audio/video clips on their websites but its Totally different hearing them live!!
Did you have any names of bands you were interested it?

most showcases are on weekdays, here and there you might get one on the weekend...just book appointments with dj's and bands and they will show you video of them doing weddings and what they offer.

For Dj-starlight express is great

band-i saw heart and soul at a showcase and they were actually really good

What I would do is call them up during the week and ask them to mail you demos. From there, if you don't like the demo, you probably won't like them live so you can narrow down from there....when you have narrowed it down, then make your appointments. Good luck!

That's a good idea about the demos. I will see if I can do that. Do you guys have any good band recommendations? I don't want to huge of a band maybe 4 - 5 pieces. Ideally I want a band that isn't too loud - I hope that makes sense. I want people to dance, but I also want people who don't want to dance to be able to talk at their tables....
My parents love this band called Stages. They've seen them at a couple of weddings. Anyone ever hear of them.
Other than that I'm not sure what other bands to look at.

However I still am open to a dj. I want to meet with Tommy Tune because my parents loved him at the LIW show and I have an appt with In the mood - a house vendor.
I will look at Starlight express too because I'm in Mineola and that's local.
For a DJ I don't want any giveaaways and I don't want someone in the crowd telling me how to dance, just let the crowd go with it...

Thanks for all your help girls. I really don't know what I would do without this site, especially planning from afar!

We are using Soul Revival and they are great. I agree with getting a cd if you can't go to a showcase b/c unfortunately they all seem to be during the week Good luck planning your wedding from out of town

Re: Music for the wedding

honestly, most bands I've seen will only book for 7-8 pieces minimum.

You may be better off w/ a DJ but many DJs now have instruments too (sax, drums, etc). I saw starlight and I thought they were pretty awesome too....some DJs even have live singers....

as far as weekends, its hard because they all have 'work' on the weekends....its wedding time so they're probably scarce. If you think you might like someone either look to see if they have a video online or request a demo....that's your best bet really...good luck!

I'm using the Projekt and I think they're great....they def have a CD...if you can, contact them directly and book just through them...it'll be cheaper than going through Soundcheck...HTH!
