FH and I had only been together for 2 years when we got engaged...our relationship got serious very early on being that we were practically living together and going to med school together 24 hrs a day...so I had of course talked about getting engaged and joked about it since we were living together but I did NOT expect him to ask when he did. I guess if you joke enough about it, it happens lol. I thought he would wait till we were done taking our boards but i guess he was just as excited as i was for the next step! I think If it hadn't happened by our 4th year (which is next year) then i'd prob push a little...once i met him i wanted to be married before residency so we could get placed together.

When FH and I first started dating I was a freshman in college and 19 years old....FH was 20. We knew early on that we were going to get married and used to spend all of our days together both inside and outside of school. Since we were so young, I knew that a proposal wasn't going to happen anytime soon...and I wasn't expecting it to either. We just knew that in the future we were going to get married. Now I'm 24 and FH is 25...and we we've been together for 5.5 years...I knew that a proposal was going to be coming because I knew FH was saving for my e-ring. Honestly, I don't think I would have ever broken it off with him because we both knew we were going to get married and it was just a matter of time before it happened.

FH was talking about marrying me since our third week of dating. It actually was kind of creepy. But after 6 months together we realized that we didn't want to be with anyone else and that we want to be married. And on our 1 year anniversary he propsed. It's a lot earlier than some couples normally get engaged...but if you know thats the person you want to be with...why wait?

I doubt I would have ever broken it off, but then again there really wouldnt be a reason to FH and I think exactly alike and whatever I want he wants and vice versa, We started dating in the last few months I was in highschool and he seriously asked me to marry him as soon as i got to college, but he knew my parents would not be fond of that idea at the time, but we always said we would get married when i graduated college so it made sense that he asked me the beginning of my senior year! I probably would have waited until a few months before I graduated before I said, 'babe lets get engaged now' and he would have said something like 'oh yea I almost forgot' haha because that is kind of relationship we have and he hasnt stopped reminding me he wanted to get married since we started dating, so It really would have never come to that.

FH and I meet in the winter of 06' we were both just looking to have fun. He was on and off with his ex of four years and I was just having fun. Things started falling apart completely with his ex around summer 08' and we started seriously dating. He started saying things like 'your the one i want to have a family with and your the one i want to grow old with'. I would always say 'So you'll make it happen'. Sure enough In July of 09' he proposed. I hung around for what seemed like forever for this guy to let go of his past. So I think i would have waited forever to marry him if i had too because I wanted to be his future.

I waited 7 years and 3 months to finally get my rock! We also started dating when we were really young, sophomores in college, so I knew it would be awhile before marriage would be on either of our minds. When you start dating someone at that age (those crazy college years) you go through a lot of drama together. I basically watched my FH go from being a boy to a man, and went from hearing him say that he never wanted to get married to getting down on one knee and telling me he couldn't live without me. Although we've been through a lot, I wouldn't of had it any other way, and looking back on it now I'm glad he waited and proposed when he was ready, and not because he felt pressured to do it.
