Thank you Jen for picking me to be this week's BOTW! I'm very excited to be lucky number 10 & I truly hope I can think of great questions like the ones we have gotten so far that will help us all better get to know each other!
Okay, so here is my first question of the week!!!!
Did your fiancé ask your parents for your hand in marriage? Or was your engagement a complete surprise/shock to everyone?
My fiancé did ask my parents for their permission. I'm pretty sure he would have done it anyway, but I had hinted to him early on in our relationship (well, when I knew it was becoming more serious) that it would mean a lot to me if he asked their permission, when the time rolled around. I didn't want it to be a complete shock to them because that would have just been super awkward haha.
It's funny because I later found out that my fiancé had asked my parent's permission earlier in the day on Memorial day weekend. He came over while I was at work & my parents were like 'Oh hey.... so.... what's up? Kelly is at work....?' and after every thing was settled, my father let my 3 dogs inside to say hello to their 'future brother-in-law'
Just a side note because I think it's adorable--my fiancé had told me he was so nervous driving to my house that he tried to distract himself by singing loudly a long with the radio.

Re: *** My 1st QOTD 3/5/12 ***
Congrats again on being BOTW. Great first question.
FH not only asked my parents, but my older brother as well. Apparently, he had told my brother that he wanted to get everyone together to talk about something. It took a few weeks, but when it finally happened, my parents first reaction was 'oh thank God!' FH was like what? My mom turned around and was like 'we thought your were going to ask us to move her out of the apartment!' (Obviously joking, but still, aren't my parents so sweet? ) They were very happy that we got engaged, and I was super happy that he asked my parents. I had hinted very early in the relationship that I thought it was very sweet and a respectful thing to do, so I was very happy that he listened.

Congrats on being BOTW
FH asked my dad a few days before. He went over my parents house and asked to talk to my dad. My dad, not having any clue, asked if he wanted to talk in private. FH said that would be great (the FH thought at the time my dad knew what he was going to ask but he really didnt.) They went out to pouch and he asked my dad if he would give his blessing. My dads face dropped to the floor . At the same time this was happening my sister walked into the kitchen and saw FH at my parents house without me and asked my mom why he was here. My mom, not having a clue either, said ooo you know they are probably talking guy stuff. My sister then says to my mom 'imagine dan is asking dad for permission to propose!'. my mom said haha yea imagine! They never told my sister the real reason he was there until after the proposal because they didnt know if she could keep the secret.

Congrats on being BOTW!! Oh and I love your mouse ears!!!
FH didn't officially ask my mom (my dad passed away), but my mom wanted me to get married so bad she would always ask him when he was going to make an honest girl out of me...lol. So needless to say, FH knew that he already had her blessing. He didn't tell anyone in his family except his two sisters...they went with him to pick out the ring.

FH asked my family in front of me! When we were in Portugal, he didn't have the ring with him but he wanted my grandmother to be part of it in case she didn't make it to the wedding. So in our living room, after dinner, he asked for my hand in marriage to my whole entire family!

My fiance asked my dad when we were celebrating his birthday. They were both in another room and everyone else was somewhere else. MY FH made it a point to say it wasn't happening today but soon. After their chat, I happened to walk in the room where my dad proceeded to congratulate me. I had a bewildered look on my face (even tho FH and I spoke of marriage I didn't know he was asking that day). It clicked and I was like UM Thanks.... LOL it was so funny and awkward at the same time.

Nope ,my FH asked my dad and my aunt first, they had a long face to face talk with them before he asked me. He had to write a letter to them, declaring his love and etc.... I didnt know this until after...( Its a nigerian tradition to write a letter to the brides to be parents.)...So he said he will frame it, and place it in our new place. Its soo cute,at the bottom of the letter he signed it and dated it.

Congrats on being the BOTW.
Fh asked my dad and my brother (and semi brother). It was funny because FH asked me to get something to eat for when he comes home from work and he said he would call when he's almost home. Well I figured I would be nice and go a little early so it would be here when he got home. He called and I was on my way back from getting food so he rushed off the phone and I pull into the driveway and he's talking to my dad. I get out of the car and they're like oh we we just talking about the roof my dad just put up on our gazebo so I really didn't think anything of it. That night he asked me and he told me how rushed he felt because he thought he would have more time to talk to my dad Then he told me how he asked my brother and my brothers friend (I've known him since I was little and he's like another brother) for their permission as well.

My parents had no idea!
At first, I thought FH should've asked my dad (I'm weirdly traditional sometimes even though it's not my thing lol) but then I realized it was fun getting to call my parents and tell them and hear them be totally shocked, too.
My dad, who only has had a cell phone for two years, finally figured out how to take pics on his phone so he could take one of my ring....it was so sweet of him

FH spoke to my mom before asking me. I went out to run an errand for my mother and he happened to come while I was out. So he spoke to her before I came home. It was suppose to be a surprise to me but my mother told me. (FH does not know that she told me and I will never tell him). It was still a surprise because he did not do it that night but she thought he would.

That's cool that you got to surprise them and tell them! That must have been a fun phone call. When I called my parents right after my fiance' proposed, my Mother tried to pretend like she didn't know... The conversation was like this: 'Soooo.... Joe just gave me a ring....' and my Mother: 'A ring?? really?' and I then I told her to stop pretending like she didn't know because he had just told me he had asked their permission hahaha
AND that totally sounds like me regarding traditions. I'm usually pretty out there with things in general, but there are some traditions that I am oddly stuck on... especially wedding-related ones. That's why we're not seeing each other pre-ceremony!

Haha omg, I can't believe she told you! Thank goodness he didn't propose that night, so that it was a surprise atleast!

My fiance did ask my parents permission. He asked them the day before he proposed. After the proposal,my mother told me that they were so excited and that they Justin. My mother said my father even cried. I was surprised when he proposed but wasn't completely shocked. We had been talking about marriage for a bit.

FH always said he was going to ask my parents first. But we ended up moving in together and my parents actually told him there was no need to ask them because they were glad to get rid of me lol (i guess i'm a pain in the *ss sometimes haha). My parents knew we were getting engaged though, we went to our family jeweler to get the ring made.

I fully expected my parents to say that to my fiance'!
