My 9/22 wedding review...trying it again

I tried to post this yesterday, but it didn't work since I cut and pasted it from word. So now I have to retype the entire thing, which means it will be much shorter, but here goes...

The day, of course, was amazing. We had the ceremony at Good Shepherd in Holbrook and the reception at Land's End. The weather held out I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. I will post pictures most likely this weekend, as soon as I have access to a scanner. But until then, here's the vendor review:

Reception - Land's End: Everything you've heard about it is true! Truly amazing! The staff was so attentive and all the guests were raving about the food, atmosphere and service.

Photography - Mark and Jack from Mark Kauffman's studio: Despite a little snag the week before our wedding when we found out that Lynn wouldn't be our main photographer as planned, everything worked out fine and we have tons of great pictures. Mark filled in and he and his assistant were great. One thing to know about Mark...he leaves the reception after the dancing and toasts, but his assistant stays behind. As for Jack, I can't even begin to tell you how much we loved him. He's such a cool guy and his photography is amazing!

DJ - Tom Gordon (Brooklyn): Both DH and I just love him. He's without a doubt the nicest, most caring vendor I worked with. Our guests were dancing all night and a bunch of them have commented on how much they liked our DJ.

Cocktail Hour Music - Jimmy Novack (CT): I found him on the web. He does all Jimmy Buffett music so I thought he would be a lot of fun for our outdoor cocktail hour on the water. He exceeded my expectations! Not only is he a super-nice guy, but he was on-time, sounded great, was REALLY inexpensive and all of my guests loved him. People were dancing throughout the cocktail hour. One of my friends said I should have made the whole reception the cocktail hour.

Florist - Simpson & Co. (NYC): Ted, the owner, was a royal pain in the a$$, but I say that with the utmost affection (and I know he felt the same way about me). We had kind of a funny working relationship that left him hating every idea I had and me just trusting him in the end. Well I have to say he came through brilliantly. I could never have imagined how great our flowers would come out and all of our guests, as well as the staff at Land's End, certainly noticed. They were so original.

Video - Candelite Video: Tim was great! He was everywhere without being obtrusive and I'm sure our video will be fantastic.

Limos - RJ's Exotic Limousines: We experienced some minor problems with them in trying to locate the table cameras we had left behind in one of the limos, but all in all they were actually pretty good. They were on time, the cars were new and the drivers were very friendly...all at a very reasonable price.

Charter Buses - Hampton Jitney: Pretty good. We hired them to take our guests on a winery tour the day before the wedding and our driver, Doug, did a wonderful job. We also hired them to transport our guests on the day of the wedding. The only problem was that they got lost on the way to the cocktail hour, but this was relatively minor when compared to how great they were to deal with.

Who else? I think those are the major players. Feel free to post any questions. And I'll get those pictures up ASAP.

Oh, our bagpiper - DIDN'T SHOW. The funny thing is I didn't even realize it until halfway to the reception. But I will refrain from posting his name since he did leave a message at a later date, apologizing and saying his wife is pregnant and was having heart problems. I don't know if this is true or not, but I can't in good conscience bash him.

Re: My 9/22 wedding review...trying it again

Oh, I forgot...hair and makeup was done by Kristen from Enchante. I wish I could post a better review because I think Kristen is really nice, but the best thing I can say about my hair and makeup is that it looked okay. My advice would be to definitely go for a trial (both hair and makeup), not too far in advance, and work EVERY detail out and take pictures. My hair did not come out as planned and I didn't go for a makeup trial. The makeup was okay, but there were certain things I did not like...especially the mascara and lipstick. Also, my mom had her hair done and it frizzed up right away. Not that this is Kristen's fault, but she had made it seem like my mom's hair wouldn't frizz unless the weather was really bad. Had my mom known it would get like that, she would have gone with an updo. I just feel really bad because I was the one who encouraged her to see Kristen and now my mom hates the way she looks in all our pictures.

Re: My 9/22 wedding review...trying it again

Do you mind me asking how much jimmy novack was? I am interested in having someone like that at my cocktail hour but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg! Also can I have his number? Thanks!

Re: My 9/22 wedding review...trying it again

sheppy - The bus for the winery tour cost about $800 for 8 hours. We did a tour of the north fork, stopping at Pugliese, Pelligrini, Martha Clara and somewhere else I'm forgetting. Our driver was really flexible - Martha Clara was a last minute addition per his suggestion. Everywhere was either free for the tastings or our guests paid, except for Martha Clara. We paid like $50 up front for a private tasting with the owner (a wacky and fun French guy). Pugliese is the best! The tastings are free and they have a huge tasting menu. Also, we had a picnic lunch and they have this great trellis covered in grapevines that you can eat under. Nobody wanted to leave.

july5bride - Jimmy was $450. I thought this was very reasonable considering I was getting $600 quotes from local steel drum bands and Jimmy had to travel all the way from Connecticut. I don't know his number off hand, but here's his website - I know he at least has an e-mail address on here:
