Somehow someone duplicated her check, forged it for a LARGE amount of money, Didn't even endorse it.... and they got the money!!!! Now HOW can this happen????

Lets just say it was over 20,000 dollars... I heard you had to get a manager to sign off when someone deposited that much money! AND IT wasn't even endorsed by this faker!!!! and the bank is telling my aunt they aren't going to pursue it!!! shes such a wimp, so we told her to go to the police and get the feds involved if necessary. we told her to get the 'shame on you' guy. This made me so mad!!! And it took forever for her to get the money back. ANd shes having a hard time getting the interest put back in.

we think it was an inside job somewhere... because how did they get a copy of her check? how did they know how much she had in her account so the check wouldn't bounce.
Meanwhile we told her to take the money out and go with a different bank.
anyone know about banking and what else to do about this? or know policy for this?

I know how your aunt feels. I'm a victim of idenity theft. I hope it gets cleared up soon.

I think the bank is wrong...how can they deposit a check without it being endoresed. I would get the police or the corporate headquarters of the bank involved.

Good luck

and she didn't even talk to the bank manager!!!! she just took what the customer service person told her. So we told her she HAS to get the manager involved. I said i would do it if she wants!! LOL i would love to rip these people a new one!

(and the OTHER bank shouldn't have deposited it... we can't tell if the check went through this other bank or just uses it as a clearing house)

You're right, the manager should get involved. To me, the bank teller that took the check should be fired immediately.

gees, what bank? I know Astoria clears checks a lot with them not being signed.

I wonder if the teller was in on it and that's how it wasn't endorsed.
